hmm I loved Story of Minglan and General and I but I wouldn't specifically recommend those to beginnings, especially Minglan. Her story was amazing all together one of the best dramas I've watched but I don't think it would be appealing to starters. A lot of my friends who watch C-drama started out with K first so the immediate switch from 16 episodes of light hearted that nearly always has romance that ends well to a 50+ episode drama with politics and love that doesn't always go the right way is too drastic and scares them away.
So I've always suggest short rom coms like The Romance of Tiger and Rose (which was included in the article) and I've Fallen for You.
