In dramas based on novels, moments like these often get amplified to feel more realistic and impactful rather than subtle or minimal. I can't recall the exact K-drama, but there was a similar food poisoning incident added purely for dramatic effect. In this case, though, the separation was ultimately Yifan's decision, tied to her ongoing struggle of avoiding her past. Since she hasn’t fully opened up to those around her, this change feels fitting and doesn’t seem out of place.
