Thanks to the love in the youtube comments on episode 1 I persevered when I thought of skiping it 4 minutes in.…
I'm not sure if there's an English translation of the novel but you could watch the donghua. The animation at the start was low quality but it does get a lot better afterward. You could probably watch it from where the drama left off (I'm not sure which episode that is though in the donghua lol).
