It started of okay but the story was carried by the fact that we don't know anything about Sarah Kim. Plot twists made 'sense' because the audience was just as confused as the police. Also the police could easily shut down the lies about her being Mi Jeong. Sarah Kim gave a kidney transplant while Mi Jeong (who is undocumented and had no hospital records) would probably still have both. Did they not perform an autopsy? And if Sarah Kim hadn't thrown the purple birkin in the sewer as well, the body would probably be unidentified.
I think that the lack of a proper plot and the drama being mainly action scenes is a metaphor for how Gi Jun was thinking throughout the drama. All he saw was red, and wanted to kill anyone who had a connection with his brother’s death. After everyone was taken out, there was a sense of emptiness just like how revenge feels like in the end. Gi Jun got revenge but the gangs he worked hard to build and its members are gone, his brother is still dead and now he has to carry those scars.

Looking back, I also agree Hong Joo was suspicious. Her statement about JaeHee being at the crime scene shifted the blame from her and we overlooked the fact that she must have also been at the crime scene. I just didn't think she was the killer because of the precision of the murder and how there was no struggle (agree with that detail you mentioned). I also thought she had no motive. To me her purpose in the drama was a toxic ex that wouldn't leave Raik alone (like love triangle).
Why did the investigation actually start being taken seriously in ep 8-10. Somehow, the earring just appeared at the end and was not mentioned at all till ep 9. They wasted so much time taking about the contract Woosung signed, that I thought the killer would be CEO Geum. The hidden morse code message in songs being the solution to the case just seemed like a lucky guess… I found the killer to be so random as well. The prosecutor was a complete different story.
The mother was let off so easily, because she ‘saw potential in him and knew he was meant to be a singer’ but then stole all his salary. 🙄
All of this over a painting and because he was ‘rude’ is a stupid reason for killing someone, and why did that prosecuter not check the husband’s call records, he incarcerated Yun Su just based on his gut feeling.
I think the reason why people are disappointed with this drama is because it started off so strong. A Jin got revenge on her bully not only by embarrassing her but by bringing her whole family down and then also ruined her teacher’s (who looked down on her and belittled her) marriage. She manipulated people like Jae Oh and her art teacher into ruining Seung Hee by making him feel ‘useful’ and taking about True Love.
Then, despite getting beat up by her dad, who stole her university funds and ruined her future as a lawyer, she immediately finds a way to get rid of him. In one episode she starts manipulating the cafe staff by hiring a stalker and making it seem like she is getting harassed and presenting her life as pitiful. She manipulates Jun Seo by adamantly not moving and paying her dad, getting ‘attacked’ by her stalker because he didn’t protect her and then gets him in prison when he’s trying to get evidence on her father (even got him to hide the evidence of the murder and confess as the killer to save her). Then she created a ‘dutiful daughter’ persona to trick her dad into letting his guard down, so that she could get her boss to kill him with a baseball bat left conveniently at the front door. To save herself from prison she would also record conversations with police officers and report them for corruption.
In the first half, Baek A Jin is presented as a ruthless character who would do anything for her own gain. This makes the audience feel distant and somewhat scared of what she is capable of. However, in the second half, her cold-hearted personality slowly starts withering. She wastes time on petty bullies like Lena (who doesn’t really hinder her success), somehow is caught in the crossfire of two deaths which she did not even plan, she cannot get revenge on the Longstar CEO by herself, feels remorse for the deaths of the grandma and Jae Oh, marries a random man without checking anything about him (tries to do a background check after they’re married), fails to threaten or manipulate her husband (even through the use of blackmail), goes insane in the last 2 ep, cannot save her career and is almost killed by Jun Seo. By the end of the drama, viewers almost feel sorry for A Jin despite her previous actions, she is portrayed as a powerless and someone deserving of sympathy. If she remained a calculating villain who would stop at nothing for success and then fell from grace, I’m pretty sure watchers would not bat an eye if she ultimately died or was sentenced to life in prison.
However, the acting was AMAZING all the way throughout even if the writing wasn’t consistent
Later on in the season, it's mentioned that Si-Eun decided that he would not get involved in any fights or make any friends in his new school due to his trauma. That's why after he fights, he apologises to Su-Ho and also tries to distance himself from Baku.

Definitely agree, just wanted to highlight the way Seok Ryu’s mom treats her daughter isn’t ideal but either way, they have a strong mother-daughter bond in which they still love each other despite arguing. Just wish they could sit down and talk their problems out instead of fighting. Also after years of being paid and given gifts just for looking after her friend’s son must have made her feel inferior since she can’t dish out money like that, therefore wanting her children to be successful would have evoked a sense of pride and worthiness. Possibly manifesting into an obsession to prove she is better despite being not so well off.
Is it only me who can’t stand Seok Ryu’s mom’s insufferable sense of pride. She would always try to be the best in her group of friends and would get jealous of Seung Hyo’s mom. She spent half the drama trying to convince Seok Ryu to go back to America with her ex just so she would have something to brag about, and then told Seok Ryu it was for her ‘benefit’. This just put pressure on her daughter to be the best so she doesn’t embarrass her and then wondered why Seok Ryu didn’t tell her about all her problems. Not to mention her beating Seok Ryu in the middle of the street after she came back for the first time in 10 years without asking her what happened. She would also give up her friends of 40 years just to protect her pride.
