My friends recommended this to me saying it's somewhat similar to street dance china (as an avid watcher since 2019 I wanna check this out) and honestly I was disappointed in terms of comparing it to street dance china but this one is entertaining because of the drama.
I hated how MNET basically edited a lot that the essence of street dancing is gone. Different street dancing styles are rarely seen (Lots of hip hop, freestyle, etc. and their's wacking, and honestly I wanted someone to do breaking just to add some flare, I don't know, something, some of the contestants even know krumping why isn't that showcased) and techniques are rarely highlighted in the dance battle and MNET focused on the drama. But then again I'm only in Episode 2. There's a lot of prejudice as well since I think they got an idol dancer in the mix and you can see the edit just going hard whenever someone talked down to her that I'm tense whenever she's called and I don't even know her. Their statements against the pretty dancer leader are juicy and she's single out when there are lots of pretty people there. The drama.
In terms of judges, I wish they invited someone that actually participated in street dancing or his/her dance is largely influenced by it so that there's another layer of opinion in the mix. Street dance china got idols as their mentors but there's a portion where they showcase their knowledge in it and danced to it. A segment where street dancers are invited to judge a dance battle is there as well. But then again MNET edits a lot so we don't know if they have given a more coherent reason for choosing certain contestants. But what do I know. I only dance contemporary and hip-hop and the judges are much more experience compared to me.
