Guysss .. I've questions .. 1) How does JT knows that SW messed up his exam on purpose ? Just a hunch ?2) In ep.…
Answer to your 4th question. SW doesn't actually hate everyone named Jiang. The reason he already had beef with the surname when he heard about Jiang Tian for the first time was because he was already lowkey mentally beefing with Jiang Tian's mother, Jiang Ou. Because SW hadn't yet come to terms with Jiang Ou moving in and trying to act like his new mom. So when he started beefing with Jiang Tian he just thought it was a weird coincidence that the only two people giving him headache were both named Jiang (he didn't know they were related at the time). No deeper stories behind it.

Of course i’m not speaking for the whole community, I’m speaking from my own experience. I’m gay myself, and my queer circle has a different opinion from yours. I’ve also discussed the show with quite a few queer friends, and i don’t think it’s right to say ”most” members of the community found this as horrible as you say. You’re entitled to your opinion, and i see where you’re coming from, but we interpreted the intentions of the screenwriters and the director differently. The director is also a taiwanese gay man who lived through very homophobic times, so i wouldn’t say he’s got no idea what he’s doing. Having only worked on more raw (emotion-wise) queer cinema, he was also totally new to the whole ”BL” genre, which means he didn’t take on the production with the intention of selling a fetishized image of gay people to straight women (which i think most BL productions are guilty of). The way he portrayed the feelings of the two lost teens was actually relatable for me and many others.
How do you think they should’ve portrayed the internalized homophobia here to do it justice? What would you have changed? I understand that issues around it in the show were left to be tackled in the future, but i don’t think that automatically makes the show have a homophobic rethoric. While the homophobia may not have been addressed in a satisfactory manner, that doesn’t mean it was portrayed completely unrealistically.

Thank you! 🧡 In my opinion The On1y One delivered us a love story that is overwhelmingly and heart-wrenchingly beautiful in its realism, and i find it really sad that many people came to dislike it basically for that very reason. I feel like their expectations for queer romances are so unrealistic because nowadays the asian BL scene is full of shows that tend to that mostly not even queer audience that only wants the lazy fanfiction-level gay erotica. Like did this one fail to feed you fetish or what? Give me a break... this is a masterpiece.
Wow, this show is rated really high on the hopes that it gets season 2 vs what's actually here. I feel like my…
It was sad reading your comment. It just sounds like you’re allergic to open endings, or anything other than happy ”YIPPEE THEY’RE KISSING” endings. As a queer person myself, I for once got the feeling that this is a drama *from* a queer producer *for* queer people. It doesn’t follow the norm where the pair gets their sweet happy cutesy ending after realizing their feelings. You know why I think this ending can totally wrap up a season without ruining it, whether or not we get a 2nd season? Because it perfectly portrays queer relationships. Because for queer people in this society, things are rarely flowing that smoothly. Love stories that are left uncompleted and leave you salty are deeply engraved into queer history and the queer identity. This drama represents that. While the ending was bitter, it wasn’t completely pessimistic and hopeless. The possibility for a better future was laid there, and that makes the ending beautiful in a bittersweet way. I can actually relate to it.
”A slowburn without the burn”? What do you need to see for it to ””burn”? A verbal confession? The boys making out? For me this is the very epitome of a gay slowburn romance. The drama depicted very clearly how the two slowly grew passionate feelings towards each other. They communicated their love in every way other than by simply saying ”I love you”. I, for one, felt that ”burn” in their every action and in the gazes they exchanged, it could be read between the lines in their every conversation. The romance was there. If you didn’t feel it, that’s your issue. I find it ignorant to say the romance was non-existent simply because it didn’t progress like every other cliche bl where the story has almost no realistic queer nuance to it and where one of the guys could be replaced by a woman without it affecting the storyline in any way.
It’s one thing to say this wasn’t your cup of tea, and it’s another to talk shit about it because apparently the show isn’t ”intriguing” enough until the guys shout out loud ”we’re gay for each other!” and make out.

Perfectly said. This time i actually got a feeling this drama was made in honor of queer people, not just as an entertainment or eye candy for (mostly straight) BL fangirls who are just looking for two guys being cutesy together. This drama managed to actually portray the reality of queer relationships, which is more than often very complicated, disappointing and even tragic, but still always hopeful and beautiful in its own way.
I’m not mad, i just need you to understand that you cannot make me see a trailer like that and then hit me with that ”aw homeboy don’t know thai? Sorry man” IMMA BEAT SOMEONE’S ASS
Has there really been discussion about 2nd season? Or is that just a rumor ya'll planting in the comment section so that I live in a constant state of stress
Does someone know how successful this series was? I have no idea where to look for this information. On Viki it…
I'm also wondering the same. Since I heard that the drama had the thought of showing that BL is a theme worth investing in just like any other theme, it'd be nice to know whether or not it got popular enough for BL to be seen in more positive light.
Viki comments are going angrier every episode because no one can deal with this one dumbass dude teasing the other one & creating a very uncomfortable silence with sexual tension afterwards
I don't like the idea of someone else playing Mek, but I'm just saying... they could have found a better voice actor for a young man than someone sounding like my grandpa. 8) but overall a good series, I'll be waiting for the 2nd season.
