I've watched 4 episodes, and so far, Maya is a horrible teacher and a horrible person. She claims to be "strict"…
I guess they could try more... But maybe you're expecting too much from elementary school children, scary adults are like boogeyman at that age. I think the way camera showed Maya from a low angle shot making her look infinitely taller and the environment getting darker whenever Kazumi looked at her shows this too, she was like a scary monster to them. And Maya did have somewhat supernatural powers of being everywhere all the time and easily convincing any adult, I'm sure the police would believe whatever she said too given the nature of this show. The show had this simple "Maya always wins" rule, anything they tried was going to end up being a waste of time anyway (except the ending where they decided to shake things up)
Actually I dropped Kazoku Game despite Sakurai Shou being my favorite actor for the exact same reasons, because he was a horrible tutor who did nothing but torture the kid and make his life miserable. I'm curious why you'd hate this one and not Kazoku Game, weren't they exactly the same...?

The students don't defend themselves because they're terrified, talking to Maya only makes her bullying get worse. It's also pointless since she'll always win the argument by blackmailing them and stuff. Talking to their parents/other teachers makes things worse too as they don't believe the kids and Maya always learns about it somehow. I can't blame the kids at all here, there isn't much else you can do at that age.
But yeah I agree about all the other points, she's a horrible person and just because everything turned out okay in the end by some miracle doesn't make her any better.
So... All that the teacher does for the first 8-9 episodes is bullying the students, and turning their school life into hell. They force this setting that she was teaching them to deal with their problems and stuff, but honestly it doesn't make sense. The reality is that, under these conditions, any other group of elementary school students would just get traumatized, get seriously hurt, start hating each other, and in the end would stop coming to school, if not worse. The only reason things worked out for this class is thanks to the unbelievable efforts of Kanda Kazumi, not the teacher. And honestly it was impossible for the teacher to know that she could accomplish this. Maybe we're supposed to just accept that it's not realistic and enjoy the show, but it's really hard to do that when half of the screen time is devoted to showing the teacher abuse a group of helpless little kids and talk nonsense.
Despite my complaints, I'll accept that - other than the teacher - this drama is great. The kids develop so much throughout the drama and they're all adorable, and every episode has some memorable moments and important lessons. Overall I still liked every episode of this show, and would recommend watching it.
