very absurd indeed, like why was the phone even there if the police never investigated the phone 💀💀
Woong Soon was investigating it privately. He never was the killer, he was looking into it because it bothers him as a police officer.
However, he doesn't have any connections and he was not exactly trained to be a detective. So while the evidence was in his keeping, it never crossed his mind to check it, or to send it to the forensics who can do better.
As I've said in another comment thread a few days back, the show's other message was about how vital information is and sharing with other teams. There is no issue with investigating something independently and/or privately but information should still be shared because fresh eyes will help a lot. Not only that, someone with connections can do things you can not do on your own.
Jirisan (the series) is such one big example of such, they were all investigating independently but are not sharing information. Sure, they all suspected each other … then they should at least share information outside of their jurisdiction if everyone in town is a suspect.
Again, information. If they shared, they could've solved it far earlier and prevented more deaths. Oh, the same with the residents, them hiding what happened in Black Bridge Valley was also key … if they only shared, those investigating would've pieced everything together.
The director gave us all the wrong directions & finally showed a Supernatural ending.
What supernatural ending? The mountain killing the murderer?
Maybe, maybe not. As Yi Kang said to him, and later to the ranger candidate during an interview, "the mountain is just a mountain".
Base on that, the only supernatural in the story is them seeing the soul of Hyun Jo and even recorded in cameras him setting up the Marks.
However, from the perspetive of the murderer, sure, the mountain punished him. Something like "Do not use the name of Jirisan in vain" and he died. But again, as Yi Kang said, "the mountain is just a mountain". The murderer was just at the right place, at the right time, for huge rocks to fall on him.
Seo Yi Kang is walking again!! how!! can anyone please explain !!
It depends … but as some doctors say "if they have somewhere to go, they'll be able to walk again". What it means is that it's psychological. Of course not all cases are like that, but the lack of medical explanation on the diagnosis about her points in that direction, she can walk again.
I already suspected from the first two episodes that she can walk again.
I have just finished the series and some BTS and I must say I am impressed - one year and 7 months of filming…
Yeah, also it is not hard to film on up there.
This is why the initial reaction re: CGI is unnecessary. They have to use some for some scenes but it doesn't mean the rest of the show will be "poor" because the first CGI were "poorly done". In the last episode, it looked like they even used real video of hikers (during the New Year climb).
They know how to make this series great and they've done a great job.
Execution: This is where it was lacking. I want to say that they should've turned this into a TV series but as the movie progressed, it would be scary to see it in this medium if done by the same director.
Acting: They can do it but it seems the director did not pushed them. The actors weren't newbies in acting, yet it doesn't seem their hearts are into this project.
Again, the story has potential. The universe can be developed further. It's just the execution of the project which pulled this film down. With that said: 6 out of 10 stars only.
I agree with your comment that many things are frustrating. The makers have cut too many corners. Another is,…
1. It has nothing to do about being "brave". He's weeks in his situation, he should've grown up already especially for a 25 year old.
2. I NEVER said NOR implied that panic attack and crying = mental illness.
This is what I said in full: "Too much panic, he probably have a mental disability at this point." TAKE NOTE: "AT THIS POINT". If that is not easy to understand, then let me spell it for you: he developed a mental illness because of his situation. Now tell me, is that impossible?
Next time, read carefully and understand before you whine and ALL CAPS.
It's good but lacking. The title doesn't make sense either as far as the story goes.
If you are looking for pure wuxia action, sans character background, this is a good choice. However, if you are looking for a story with depth, find another movie like "Reign of Assassins".
Finally, the brutality of a prosecutor was shown! I've been waiting for that! YEAH!
Teach that 25-year old a lesson he will never ever forget! Even the prison warlord gave him a book about the court and laws but naah, he ignored it, he thinks he is better than everyone else, that he doesn't need help from anyone. So much for his ego and not listening to anyone who's helping him.
I agree with your comment that many things are frustrating. The makers have cut too many corners. Another is,…
What I am more concerned about at this point is the suspect is very vulnerable to suggestions and creating false memories. There were a lot of real-life cases of this, and after it was proven, the decision was reversed … though only after a few years.
It is a real-world issue with the police and suspects. In other countries, processes were put in place to minimize unintended suggestions and creation of false memories.
I agree with your comment that many things are frustrating. The makers have cut too many corners. Another is,…
The police chief is well-known to have a very high success rate, and he is about to retire. An award from the government is due him on his day of retirement. However, if this last case he's handling ends up him being wrong, he will never get that award and recognition, and it will forever tarnish him. It will also place all his past works into question.
It happens in real life.
For the prosecutor … practically the same thing. Being a prosecutor is a badge and they are very proud of it. It is all about putting criminals behind bars, and believe it or not, when the public is enrage, the prosecutor must convict no matter what. If the prosecutor fails, especially for high-profile cases like the in this show, it will affect their career and their superior (like a Mayor).
As for the suspect … now that is highly questionable if it happens in real life, especially for a 25-year old. Too much panic, he probably have a mental disability at this point.
By the end of the day it is an industry made for entertainment where technical department, story department, acting…
Bottomline is this:
New generation of audiences (basically those born from 2000 onwards) are the "this is what I expect, fail that and you'll get 1 star from me". Gone are the days when proper criticism/review matters most than senseless "is there romance? No? Boring" or "why are there different times, it is confusing!"
People today just want to be fed baby's milk because they don't have to do any thinking and they'll feel "happily ever after". So if a writer decides to write a serious story, a story deserving awards and the "bestselling" title, it gets attacked for ridiculous reasons because the audience today are very different from the audience the writer grew up with.
If a writer wants success, add romance. If a writer wants success, keep it linear and bland. Today's audiences will find a boring format and story worthy of 100 out of 10 stars. Just look at how many shows (and books for that matter) there are of this type.
It is hard to earn money by writing fiction. So writers who are writing to appease babies are growing too … after all, they need to make money for their families too.
Unfortunately, Jirisan is a victim of that. I feel bad for the writer. If they made this a decade or two ago, it will receive 100 out of 10 stars, with proper reviews and criticisms.
When this first aired it was rated pretty high, now its fallen to an 8.2 (still really good tbh but on MDL it…
Majority of people are not used to the multiple "present day" format, probably because they're too young, haven't read a single book, haven't watched this type of shows.
In any case, if one has been watching K-Dramas for a long time and they still are not used to this format of storytelling, then they probably have been watching the usual kiss here, kiss there, kiss everywhere shows. This format of storytelling is also common in K-Dramas, it is nothing new. Also, if they read books, then this format of storytelling is far more popular, they should be fine with it already. Let's not forget, it is common in non-KDramas too.
So, in my opinion, rating the show low because they do not like the storytelling format is very unfair. It is no different from asking "is there a kissing scene" or "is there romance"? "No? Then I won't watch it."
The other reasons are, the computer graphics and pace. Now, those are fine and legitimate. However, if you look at the comments everywher (or just here in MDL), the number complaint is the storytelling format of multiple "present day". It is nothing new. It is in fact a recommended format in creative fiction. As a writer myself, I am deeply insulted by ratings/reviews based on that.
This is the reason you don't choose a side character as the killer. I couldn't care less... And I feel bad because…
Side characters as the antagonist is a popular trope in creative fiction. ;P It actually exist even in classic crime stories. Nothing wrong there especially if it is a very well accepted plot for centuries. ^_^
How their chef (Dae Jin) could not solve it for so many years??... For him, who has been living and working here…
The problem is they are all working on the case and not sharing any information.
Even Hyun Jo made a mistake.
Yi Kang was the only one who finally placed all the missing pieces together and in their proper places/order too.
Then there are the residents who doesn't want to share information, which makes it even harder.
The whole point of the show was how critical information is in an investigation. It's fine to investigate something independently, it will give the "fresh eyes" advantage. However, not sharing information will definitely lead to nothing or incorrect conclusions.
There's no need. Just watch it for free from the official YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLqqQvcAR1H0m1ZrluXYjczrbK6ajTr0vL
That's where licensing comes in. For KOK channel, your country isn't covered by their licensing deal. Maybe Viki does. But for us, Viki doesn't cover our country and KOK channel does.
Again, both are official streaming platforms for this particular show. If you can watch it on Viki, then watch there since they're also one of the official streaming site for this show.
It is better for people to know which are official streaming services than letting them watch from illegal streaming sites, especially when it is officially available for free.

HAHAHAHAAH evolutionary, perfect excuse.
