I sure hope they break up for real in the end. A writer shouldn't be afraid of doing that especially if the story warrants it. Secondly, it does happen in-real-life and the audience should be made aware that real-life is not always about "they live happily ever after".
I myself went through with it, parents getting in the way and pushing what they want. People assume it only happen in dramas, in fiction, but it is actually very common.
This show is about goodbyes, not just for romantic relationships but also for families and friends. It has gone painfully to set the atmosphere and of showing the audience the inequality in relationships (husband and wife) and the meddling of parents (in our primary and secondary couples), ending it with "they lived happily ever after" would be nothing but fan service, killing the message it built up.
The secondary couple ending in "they lived happily ever after" is more than enough. The primary couple should show that life goes on after a break up and how they can stay as friends because they are more mature than they ever was when they were together.

If we look at human history in general, fitness itself is a testament to that. People used to walk a lot and for long distances, but today it's all about autos and trains. Our ancestors are far stronger than us physically.
Even in Jirisan, I can't help but always think how these people can hike a mountain like that, for kilometers and hours, like someone visiting the nearest grocery store. Then I'll remember, they grew up in the area so they're in good shape since they were kids.

From what I see in the comments and the show, it seems even the writer and/or director was torn between "supernatural", "miracle", and "natural".
They probably want to make the mountain mysterious and supernatural because that's what locals usually believe (even in other countries). Maybe there were indeed anecdotes. But at the same time, they don't want to get entangled in accusations of making the mountain other than being a mountain.
For example, Yi Kang still insisted in the end that "the mountain is just a mountain", not once but twice. One when she was facing imminent death and the other during the interview. Even after everything she experienced and witnessed herself, even after floating sticks were recorded in cameras and witnessing it herself, she stuck with her belief that "the mountain is just a mountain".
While Hyun Jo, on the other hand, has concluded that the mountain wants to punish the murderer--which seems like it did by letting huge rocks slide and kill the suspect, even saving Yi Kang in the process.
I think in the end, the writer and/or director probably used that contrasting belief of the two main characters as a way to explain the miraculous thing that happened to Hyun Jo, and Yi Kang walking again.
Think of it as, Hyun Jo was awakened by the mountain because he believed there is a supernatural power in the mountain. While Yi Kang was healed naturally because, as doctors would say, she'll "walk when they find a place to go to" and it is … well, the mountain.
Everything goes back to the mountain regardless if one believes in the supernatural or the natural. And I think that's the explanation for Hyun Jo's and Yi Kang's recovery.
