Definitely. I am shocked at the high ratings of this film and is truly doubtful whether those who had given high ratings even watched the film. I actually pulled my friend to watch the movie with me coz I thought that it would be like other military films that have a "mission" and the typical "good guys defending their country and defeating the bad guys" kinda plot. The execution could have been so so much better and the propaganda could have been seamlessly incorporated into the film. Honestly no hate to propaganda coz all military films have some aspects of it but for the propaganda to stick out so much like a sore thumb is pretty distracting.
I scrolled through my reviews and realised that I wrote a review for Banshu Legend so many years back when zhang laoshi was still an unknown and unpopular young actor. I saw him when he was a talented actor who was struggling in his career, I saw him shot up to fame through WOH and made so many people love him, and I also saw him get cancelled. It took him 10 years to walk to us, I am willing to wait for him for another 10 yrs or more. He isn't my ideal type (I dun deserve such an ideal type hahaha), he's my role model, an old friend and my ray of light. I want to be just like him -- fearless, passionate, well-read, kind-hearted and gentle. I miss him already, his presence, his contagious laughter, his twinkling eyes, his heart-shaped smile, his peach-like booty, his constant teasing, his book reviews, his reflections abt the world and life, everything.
started watching this drama to support LYT and LYJ father-son duo HAHAHHAHA sometimes I get a little swayed away while watching the drama because they look so similar (bless the handsome genes)

I am reviewing this drama and their acting as an audience. As an audience and avid C-drama fan, I hope that Zhao Lusi and all other actors/actresses can come up with quality dramas more than anyone else so that I can binge-watch all day 24/7. I am saying that as someone who had watched her earlier dramas, I can see her other roles (Chen Qian Qian, Luo Fei Fei, Gu Sheng Nan etc.) in her role as Sang Qi. Her acting style is extremely stagnated: exaggerated, goofy and K-drama style. It is not my goal to pick out her flaws in her acting or to criticise this drama, but any audience of a neutral stance with two eyes and expectations can tell that her acting skills have yet to improve and that this drama is bad. As said before, I am just a regular audience, so I do not keep up w her news or interviews. I agree that her role as Leyan was widely praised, and it is mostly because it is different from her prior roles. This doesn't mean that her acting in Sang Qi is good or different from her prior roles, but it simply means that her acting skills is inconsistent (rather than improving) considering that A Female Student was filmed not long ago. Okay, let's say that her company really pressured her. But this doesn't change the fact that her taking up the role as Sang Qi is a bad move as it is far too similar to her prior characters and this drama is just low-quality in general, but this doesn't mean that her subsequent moves will be bad. Criticizing this particular drama doesn't mean that I won't watch her future dramas. It is simply just a critic regarding this particular drama and her acting in this drama (think of it like an examination). So rest assured, I too look forward to watching her future dramas :) And I think you don't really understand what is LiuLiang. Coz ZLS is a liuliang celebrity. Once again, rest assured, I don't think there's anything bad abt being a liuliang celeb. Most young celebs are liuliang celebs anyways. As long as they have quality works under their belt and are constantly improving & pushing their boundaries.
Just watched this movie. One of the best movies I have ever watched. I am not someone who cries easily, but this 八佰 made me use up half a packet of tissue. The cast and storyline are excellent. I would definitely like to see this movie get nominated for international film festival, but it's highly unlikely due to its political messages.
