Starting the novel by itself would be SO much more confusing, I watched the donghua first and I was still co fused when reading the beginning chapters of the novel

Funny part is the fan translation of the book has been taken down because the oficai translation is coming out soon Which kinda sucks because the book was the best way to get into it
However to this day I still believe that you should start with the 1st season of the donghua especially if you do not know much about wuxia and xianxia or chinese drama troped in general. The donghua is a great visual representation.
