Passable, but nowhere near its MDL score
I'm glad I went into this blind, because if I saw the score beforehand, I'd be sorely disappointed. While I don't give too much credit to MDL average scores, I've never been burnt by a drama rated 9 and above. They've always been class.
This show however, while I don't regret watching it, and I will definitely be watching season 2 very soon, should be rated 8 at best.
I understand this is a webtoon originally, and those tend to be a bit outside the norm, and I also see the appeal of darker dramas, as they're by far my favorite, with few pulling it off well, but I still cannot fathom why people seem to rate this so highly.
The story is whatever, the acting is passable at best. The only acting I enjoyed was by Su-ho's actor, and it's not like his role is that hard to pull off. The fighting in the show is well done and visceral, so thumbs up for that. Yet I've never seen kids take this many beatings and be fine and dandy 10 minutes later.
I like how snappy the episode length is, but in a sense that isn't a good thing, because when I watch a drama I really enjoy, I don't even notice the episodes are 70 minutes long. The main upside to the episodes being 30-40 minutes is that I know I spend little time on them while getting through it, not really a hallmark of greatness.
6.5 is my verdict for now. Maybe the high rating is due to the main actor being a kpop star, I have no other explanation.
