I am so sick of this in Asian shows that parental cruelty is always explained and whitewashed in a way. Now Xu…
I'm so glad you posted that, it honestly ruined the show for me. I would have loved for Ye Guang to throw that phone at his father's or mother's head, instead they made it worse by justifying their behaviour through other characters. It's seriously enraging, this mindset needs to change and dramas would be the perfect way to start, yet they keep reinforcing it. I'm so done with this show.
Well, it's based off a manga and if you know anything about live-actions, their bound to be corny af. Which can…
It's perfectly fine, we all have something that touches on subjects or parts of ourselves that makes us take some things personal, I certainly know I do. Everyone's experiences are valid, we all live our own reality and no one has the right to invalidate or talk over someone else's; that's the beauty of life, so many different realities all on the same planet, it's much more productive to listen and learn from each other so we all can have a better understanding of the parts of life that we haven't personally experienced. I might wait for it to finish before I continue watching, that way I can see how it ends instead of having to worry about the outcome. Either way, I hope you have lots of fun with it!

That's why I said "it makes me wonder if he’s even gay/bi or just innocently curious", because I simply don't know which it is, just that it gives me an unpleasant feeling. I think you misunderstood my comment as a factual statement when it was nothing but an impression based on what was shown, and confessing based on a realisation about someone you never thought about before nor really interacted with warrants doubt about his motivation, even more so when the rest seems more than reluctant. I'm a very rational person and can't comment on how first love/crushes feel because I have no personal emotional experience, despite my like for lovestories, I don't experience that emotion. It might very well be that rationalising it, together with having consoled too many people because of crushes gone wrong, makes me look at it too pessimistic. Let's be honest, the show is meant to be cute and light-hearted, it's not meant to be taken so seriously and the Mangaka properly didn't even think that far. Overanalysing is a fault of mine, I admit that, and I'm sorry if it made you feel uncomfortable.

It's quite typical for Japanese HS BL, I just don't see any real affection coming from Amagi, maybe because his confession was so out of the blue and completely based on a whim. I think that left a very bad impression on me, coupled with his reaction that looks like repulsion, it comes off as whimsical crush taken too far. There's no point in taking things into consideration that haven't been stated nor hinted at, asexuality, trauma, neurodivergency, none of that is currently on the table, so we should only judge what has actually been included in the show. But yeha, the whimsical confession based on "I just realised I like him" followed by "we haven't really interacted before" already painted a pretty bleak picture that wasn't helped by the repulsion shown. It's likely an age thing, the quick look I took at the Manga made it obvious that the targeted audience is at least 20 years younger than me, and female, so without all the real-life baggage of having seen guys who behave like Amagi breaking the hearts of dear friends because a bi-curious crush went too far. Sometimes experiences just ruin shows/books, it's hard to keep it separated from fiction when it touches prominent memories.
This was unexpectedly good, amazing how a short-series can manage to be so much better than 90% of full-length ones. Bonus point for the characterisation, finally some (young) adults that behave like adults instead of 12 years old kids.
The screenwriter is a man, a theatre writer no less. That makes so much sense, many of the compositions are very theatre-like, especially the parts that are written like a chamber play. I really hope this is going to be popular in Thailand, it makes me so sad to see the horrendous, low-quality stuff that glorifies abuse getting all the views but a show with actual quality either overlooked or criticised for being just that, a meaningful work with real dialogue and complex characterisation. This is what "BL" should be like.

I actually think the acting is quite decent, Sato Arata in particular has some serious talent.
Like I said, the characterisation is my problem, everything else is fine, but that drags it down a lot. Shun is a great character, my problem is with Amagi. I haven’t read the Manga, maybe it’s a faithful adaptation and the source just isn’t up to Japanese-drama-standard?
Or it’s just my age that makes me think too far ahead, because Amagi is a certain disaster for Shun if he stays like he is now, seemingly just bi-curious but acting like it’s genuine love. Happens way too often in real life so it leaves a bad taste whenever I see it in fiction.
I’ll keep watching for sure but will knock down my expectations.
Haven’t seen episode four, but so far it was painful to watch. Amagi is way too immature for a relationship, he even looked repulsed during the kiss, it makes me wonder if he’s even gay/bi or just innocently curious. It’s a funny show overall, just seems super clumsy/unprofessional compared to the high-quality work Japan usually puts out. I'm not sure if I like it or not, solely because of the characterisation. And what's up with Amagi's lips, did they put a filter over them? It looks surreal, gives me the hibbie-jibbies
It was cute and maybe I'm too negative, but I would have preferred for them to break up. Mizuki's ex wasn't wrong, Ryosuke isn't a good match, they want different things and live very differently, they are going to make each other miserable again. Still a nice film tho.
