ABSOLUTE CINEMAAAA!!!!!
Okay, so here's my first review on here LOL.Ahem, to put this simply THIS IS MY FAVORITE BL EVER THAT I'VE WATCHED SO FAR!!!
As a Filipino American, who's also queer I definitely saw a little bit of myself in Cai with how he dealt with his feelings for Gav and it honestly made me wish that I could've handled things better during my first relationship, but even so I think this series taught me that love can bring out a lot of things even when it's hard. Love can bring light but also help to bring out new sides of yourselves, even the worst parts.
That's how I saw Gav and Cai from the beginning to the end with how they went from teasing each other to opening up about things they went through and learning to live with it while finding that light from each other, it's beautiful honestly. It makes me want to have a relationship like there's one day. The things they went through as well as getting to each other kept me emotionally invested that I couldn't click off at all and it was a rollercoaster of emotions from joy, anger, sadness...I definitely cried A LOT because let me tell you that this series will BREAK your heart and RE-PATCH it every now and then.
This show can be romantic yet also really deep and relatable that it makes it profound. The way it deals with grief for example I found to be really relatable and realistic that it felt pretty hard for me to watch, yet they handle it with so much grace and nuance that again makes it SO profound. I also love how this show gets the whole "accepting yourself" message right by being so natural and gentle that it makes this show such a gem from what I've seen in Western queer media where it has felt way more forced. But here it feels honest and heartfelt.
I will say though the last three episodes felt a little unnecessary to me because of the whole drama with Wes, which I did find a little bit forced but I do think it was needed for the sake of character development for Cai and Gav's relationship. Which made the ending feel really impactful by them having heart to heart about how they still have a lot to learn about each other and what's important is they learn how to accept all parts of their love and themselves, as that's what love should be about is bringing out the best in each other.
Okay, maybe I should end it here before I cry again LOL.
But yeah as the title of my review, this show was CINEMA and I can't wait to watch Season 2 next, along with the movie, and Pearl's spin-off LOL. It's one of my new comfort medias now and I'm glad I enjoyed every bit of it!
Game on!
