So in the end it all boils down to bad casting. Sorry, hate Rebirth all you want but HYTT is the new Chu Qiao.…
I’m a book fan, not a fan of any actor, so don’t drag me into messy fan wars. If you had read my comment properly, you would’ve understood that I was comparing her to the book version of Chu Qiao, not to ZLY. And I never said I hated 'Rebirth', just disappointed. There’s a big difference between the two. Don't go around casually handing out labels.
Hardcore lovers of the book, this drama isn't it for you. Try watching it only if you are ready to view this as a different entity altogether. Bcoz the script ain't doing justice to the book. The way they have changed the FL's character just makes no sense to me. Like where are those epic battles I was looking forward to (well how can those happen now since you guys offed the entire Xiuli army - the literal MVP of the book). After the Ice Lake incident, she had grown weary of everything ready to give up anytime. Nothing of that sort can be seen or felt in the drama. And how does a person fall into a frozen lake twice. Have these people never heard of "once bitten twice shy", seriously. I literally felt secondhand embarrassment watching it.
They really made a bad call with FL casting, it's not about HTT being a minor, just that the gap between Chu Qiao and her is too great. Since it's the FL's story, she should basically be able to hard carry the whole drama. This role called for someone who is charismatic, can portray the intense turmoil going on in her mind and has that world weary vibe. A person who has forsaken her past but wields it with confidence when her loved ones are threatened. Production should have created a web drama instead of a full-fledged one. Maybe then I wouldn't have felt so bitter. As for why I feel like this, imagine, someone takes your favorite toy, tears it apart, and then puts it back together but some parts are misplaced or missing altogether. There you get it now.
Even though this isn't what I envisioned, I'm still going to watch it coz anything is better than nothing (10 yrs for sequel - hallelujah). If anyone is wondering why I only ranted about the FL, it's bcoz for me this was a female centric book. I'm so heartbroken over Chu Qiao, I don't even want to discuss about others. Btw nothing against the cast, they are doing a pretty good job, but the bars have been set too high.
PS: Why is that when other books get adapted the story is upgraded while this one has literally spiraled down a rabbit hole. I'm going to start taking the 'adapted' tag seriously from now on. Adapted = Parallel world with same background setting and characters.
This drama is really good. I don't mind that there are too many ideas and side characters. We should have expected it based on the premise of the show. There is really something wrong with the ratings.
