I agree, part of what elevates the show is the storyline that departs from the romance. they both have different things going on and her main goal is to stop the devil incarnate (literally). She doesn't really know the rules, she only gets one shot, and she's gotta stop this guy from killing her family. He's so desperate for affection that he becomes obsessed with her. It's unhealthy in the beginning for sure but that changes. In the beginning, he doesn't even really know what emotions are. Also, even tho TTJ is an empathetic character and loves susu till death, ppl gotta be okay with FL not being obligated to like him back just because he loves her (I obviously love his character though). She ultimately does love him in the end, but it takes A LOT for them to get there. It's allll toxic as hell--which I love too LOL
