Yeah this era is necessary for Ray to actively CHOOSE sand and not settle for him while still stuck in mew limbo this is a turning point for him. Mew may have already known he doesn't fit with Ray but he needs a rebound so.... And Ray needs to see that Mew doesn't fit him neither.
Also, Mew saying that's when you lose someone you understand how close you were (or something like this, I'm writting it from memory) was clearly a hint about Ray and Sand.

It's an excellent thread, very well explained. Unfortunately, people who have never experienced mental illness in their lives cannot understand Ray's character, who is the most complex and realistic of all.
People who keep saying that he should "go to therapy" before seeking love and acceptance simply have no idea how this kind of illness works. Going to a random shrink and telling him how shitty his life has been won't change a thing. He won't magically feel better by taking pills either. He'll just feel as numb and stunned as he does when he's drunk, minus the effect of the alcohol.
Only Friends is excellent because it shows how 'friends' generally don't care about mental problems and it's true. Because it's difficult to accept, understand and help. That's why I like the SandRay couple so much. Sand is sincere in his attempt to save Ray (which he has already done several times). Mew also helped Ray, but since he has something more interesting in his life (Top) Ray can't rely on him and he seems to have finally integrated that.
And for those who think Ray is a burden to Sand, or who don't understand why Sand is obsessed with Ray, you might want to rewatch episode 5 as everything is explained there.
It's obvious that SandRay will be the endgame simply because of how important they are to each other in so many ways. You only have to look at their names, their meanings and their symbolism to see that. It's so poetic.
I feel stupid for waiting so long to watch this drama just because of all the bad reviews. I thought it would be dreadful, boring, badly written and all the other complaints about this drama but what a surprise it was that from the first minute to the very last second I totally loved this drama. I couldn't stop laughing from the first episode to the last.
All the characters were adorable and endearing, especially the girls Pang and Miriam (which is rare in BL). The side couple were adorable and so funny and entertaining, exactly what a side couple should be. There was drama and twists and turns, just enough to make the story interesting. There were some serious subjects that are rarely dealt with in drama. The pace was excellent too, it didn't feel rushed even though it's only 10 episodes and not one episode bored me or felt superfluous. And above all, the chemistry between the two main actors was excellent.
I really don't understand why this drama was so hated? And if, like me, you're reluctant to watch it because of that, give it a try anyway. You might be surprised.

Lol this episode 6 made it clear that it was cheating. They weren't an unofficial couple, Top was after Mew and made sure everyone knew it. He cheated on Mew for some ridiculous reason because he didn't respect Mew. He saw him as a trophy for his hunting count, nothing else. Now he regrets it, but it doesn't change anything he did and Mew clearly doesn't agree with your point of view.
There's no need to lecture me when you don't know me and have no idea what I might think, you're all wrong and your hatred of a fictional character is ridiculous and pathetic. I'm being nice to you but your responses are nothing more than blame for things you know nothing about.
I've nicely explained how the RaySand couple are the least rotten of the three, but that doesn't mean they're saints. They just haven't reached the level of toxicity of the other two and have much more hope of following a better path, that's all. Nothing to do with your fantasies about what you think you know about me.
Furthermore, I've never defended Ray and Sand's bad actions, only explained their underlying motivations. Unlike Top and Boston who get everything at the snap of their fingers and yet ruin everything they touch, Ray has real reasons to suffer and that makes his mistakes more understandable, not necessarily acceptable. It's called empathy, you should try it :)
