First chinese Dramas that kept me on edge for over 30 episodes. Please don't let it end. I love it, even though it doesn't always follow the manhua(which I came here for)

I'm only at ep 2 and I already feel like I'll never be able to enjoy Bach's Chaconne again. Or, well, the first 2 bars. So overplayed T_T

Came back to rewatch it after 10 years....and just wow...I somehow love their conversations, they are unusual and intimate without saying any intimate words at times. And the way they communicate whole conversations with their eyes...wow.

This is a drama that I thought was on the upper end of mildly good while watching it for the first time. But surprisingly, I love to rewatch it and now it has become a beloved classic for me. The chaotic mood is just precious.

When Hikaru threw the glass marble at the end of ep 4 and it flew through the air, I had an unexpected moment of nostalgia... Out of nowwhere I got kind of anxious that Kagome could come by and shoot it like the shikon no tama. I haven't watched Inuyasha in more than 10 years. This is crazy.

After watching episode 1: What if Han Seo Juns child does not have the gene, but Dr. Lee didn't correct Han Seo Juns wife, when she got the results, because he wants to take revenge on Han Seo Jun who wanted this child so badly? Let him grow up as a murderer's son and treated like a psychopath by his mother. Just a thought. Hope he isn't that much of an a******.

Oh, the struggle of translating the untranslatable T_T
One of my worst nightmares is otsukare(-sama-deshita) and the korean equivalent sugohetta. This can be used for: "keep up the good work", "you are doing a good job","you must be exhausted from work" "I can go home, but you have to work(in a nice way)" "Work is over, have a nice day" "hello(at work)" etc. and google translate says :"cheers to the good work"but I feel that there are no English words that can express the underlying tone of the original statement.
And another thing.... in Korean they do not need a subject in a sentence. So they can say: "I/you/he/she/it/we/they write(s)." and it's all the same! So the translor first of all, gives away the secret subject when they form a proper sentence! And often times, they even get it wrong... Or "suki desu". What do they like?? The person? The bubble tea?

Speaking of literal and modified translations, in a time, where KDramas have become more approachable to muggles (like normal netflix watchers) the target group has changed for the subs. The watchers do not necessary want to invest into the Dramaworld or pause to read an explanation. I actually feel like 10 years ago, there were more explanations even in amateur translations i.e. of proverbs or historical and cultural background information. Sometimes really distracting, but often really helpful.

Awesome article, btw. Though I am really late to the party ;)

I thoroughly enjoyed this show. Especially the hilarious use of classical music in the last episode and all the musical scenes. This is comical exaggeration done well! I've missed this in JDramas. <3

She is def not gonna be a pushover for 16 episodes that is for sure...love the overdramatic I loved is like a…
I usually really like a bit overdramatic , too. I mean, i.e. Perfect Girl evolution, if that is not overdramatic then I don't know what is. ^^Maybe my taste just changed. And of course she will gain self-confidence, I just don't like her being the victim of the ML. That is F4 romance, which I never really was a fan of. All in all, I did not mean to spread hate or something, I think it's just rubbing me in the wrong place. Happy watching, anyways.

A seemingly ugly girl that loves horror? My first thought was Sunako from Yamato Nadeshiko Shishi Henge/Perfect Girl Evolution combined with the switch girl idea.
And this really got strong anime vibes. But as much as I loved Perfect Girl... I am losing my affection for this one. The over the top dramatic slo-mo scenes and the overuse of dramatic-suspenseful background music slowly got to me.
I also think it is unfortunate, that they used many old tropes that make the FL a pushover in every sense.
And I feel like they will try to justify the family's brutal behavior by showing some "touching" scenes later on. But for me this family is so done. I was a victim of bullying for some years in middle school partly because of my appearance and if my family treated me like that, I may really have taken my life. Fleeing from reality by reading horror manhwas alone does not keep your head above the water. From my experience you need to feel valued by at least one person. And she does not receive it from anywhere. Maybe a little bit from the father, who doesn't speak up for her, but at least doesn't insult her. But how is she supposed to know, that her family loves her despite putting her down all the time? They literally never showed it!
Maybe the FL really is strong at least in this sense.
Of course, I know that it is based on a webtoon, but an adaptation can do more. I actually liked the idea behind this.

"Or it’s just Tokyo that has only two parks?"
sounds about right to me.
Whenever Google maps showed me a park I only found concrete, normal pathways with a bush every 20 metres and more concrete and sometimes huge areas covered by plastic. But when you actually find a real park (i.e. Yoyogi park) they are stunning and very well kept.
