I watched this drama a long time ago and decided to revisit it to refresh my memory. Oh, dear, oh dear-this drama is rather daring! I didn't realise that back then, which shows how dangerous youthful ignorance can be (we really need to be protected/safeguarded until we reach full brain development, lol). It explores many taboo topics. It didn’t help that the boy really looked around 16-17 years old, but at least it didn’t pretend to be something it’s not and maintained its realism. I still felt for all the characters involved, I felt for FL cause she was so desperate to break free, I could relate to her being slowly suffocated by the society's expectations ... however, the ML's mother was downright creepy! Couldn't stand her! Her gaze was so unsettling, especially the way she looked at her son-so possessive and incestuous, yuck. That made me feel like it was the most uncomfortable aspect of the drama, which is quite telling considering the inappropriate age gap between the leads. Nonetheless, I love 90s J-dramas-they're nostalgic yet thought-provoking. The OST was also very good.
The best boy Lee Do Hyun! I am excited to watch him again. So far, he never failed with his drama and film choices so my expectations are high. Wonderful actor. Also, I adore his face -it's so loveable but it has also some duality to it (can switch up quickly from sweet and friendly to poker, dangerous ,psycho vibe).
One of the best transitions (Idol to Actor) I have ever had a chance to observe and experience. I got a whiplash watching him, wow! He is simply outstanding in every role he gets ( pretty much chameleon). Very versatile artist, not afraid of a challenge... and a beautiful face.
I really have nothing against this actor. I rarely have anything against any actor to be fair, I tend not to judge too harshly. He is rather subtle and understated in his acting but it doesn't come across as lifeless or flat. I just assumed it's his style. Of course, he should definitely aspire to get more well-rounded ,challenge himself a bit more if he wishes. But if he chooses to stay around particular genres ,I will never dare to complain. Anyway...I find his features very pretty and delicate -he reminds me of Ahn Jae Hyun or Hwang Min Hyun somewhat. Charming boyish snow fairy or a prince. Overall, I absolutely enjoy watching him.
I wish this film had never ended. I long to stay there forever-it's so comforting, peaceful, and blissful. I just want to cry. It is so simple. Surrounded by nature, with just a right amount of solitude and kind-hearted people, the gentle passage of seasons, and delicious, healthy food. I've lost count of how many times I've watched this beautiful piece of cinematography, and I will cherish it forever. I hope to see more films like this in the future! I know there is quite a lot of art-house and slice of life Japanese films like this (I appreciate them greatly)...but this Korean remake really hit the spot! I love both, Japanese and Korean culture but sometimes I am more keen to experience Korean way of doing things and acting so ...I wish for more films like this from them.
It might be hard to believe, but I find myself returning to this drama from time to time. It offers me the right perspective when I start to lose myself and spiral out of control. Although the pacing feels somewhat slow, it’s actually quite well-balanced - the episodes are short, and the story flows smoothly. I love that everything is centred around food-it adds a warm, comforting touch. This series is filled with as much heartbreak as it is with warmth and heartfelt healing. By the end, I’m left with a bittersweet longing and a deep appreciation for a simple, ordinary life and familiar daily routines. Yes, it’s sad, but it’s also so incredibly lovable! The actors are just wonderful! Especially, subtle and understated Han Seo Kyu's acting made me tear up. I really do hope for more slice of life dramas like this-not necessarily about this topic but about slow, mundane reality of our lives. Would be lovely to see something cosy, unassuming ,revolving around simple joys .Nonetheless, Recipe for Farewell really seems like a piece of poetry.
So much brilliance in such a short span of time! One project after another. Top quality. Koo Kyo Hwan, you are on a roll, I am so happy for You. Can't wait to watch it!
Keep in mind most of these dramas, especially the romantic comedies are geared toward women. Apparently they want…
I am afraid that they are often desirable to some men for all the wrong reasons. There is a lot of fetishization, a lot of stereotypes and misinformation in regards to Asian women. Makes me sick.
@Sirloin is too innocent for this world. Doesn’t understand sex tourism and exploitation of women/underage girls…

it's not like her grandfather is the only korean individual who partook in such activity back then, you could…
Apparently, they weren't just sympathisers or low level activists from what was uncovered, they actively collaborated in a grand way and reaped the benefits to this day... people in the past were stripped of their assets and wealth for less cause it's a treason-that's also why they didn't accumulate any wealth unlike Ha young's family. I'm afraid not only citizens are looking into that now ...it's a mess, poor Ha Young opened a can of worms.
The issue is that South Koreans themselves often blame their successive governments for not purging pro-Japanese colonialist collaborators when it was due. As a result, many of these individuals amassed enormous wealth (from their evil deeds) and now live very privileged lives, including Ha Young's family. The lingering consequences of their actions continue to impact Korean society to this day. It is a tragic reality for the freedom fighters. Quite dreadful ! Unfortunate, for Ha Young, she was either unaware of it or tone deaf in face of that -regardless she is now reaping consequences . Had her family's assets been stripped along with their citizenship immediately after South Korea gained independence, she might have been able to lead a normal, ordinary life somewhere in Japan. I pity her .Why on Earth her family stayed in South Korea ?! She is kind of a sacrificial lamb now. Her own ancestors f-ckd her over.

You are making a lot of assumptions about me and others. I am not outraged about it at all , I just understand why they are very sensitive about it. I pity her despite circumstances. I am glad she apologised so she can move on and not ruin her own future.

You are making some wild assumptions.I think you really should read how it came about.Your ignorance and arrogance is showing. Not going to argue with you. Waste of my nerves. I just understand why South Koreans are so sensitive about that.
It might appear so to some who were never on the receiving end of injustice . Her family amassed their generational wealth by betraying and killing Korean people .Her whole comfy, rich lifestyle was thanks to this 'blood money' . I am descendant of people and a country that was occupied twice in recent history. Citizens are still traumatised. Anyone who benefited from collaboration with the enemy is still our enemy and it is not taken lightly. It's too fresh. She is doing a good thing now. I don't want her to be cancelled forever.
Agreed international fans are not going to fully get it. I know enough of the history to understand why they are…
Ones from Europe-especially those countries that were occupied by Nazi Germany and consequently Soviet communist Russia will totally get it. The gravity of the situation would be quite severe. It is still fresh in the minds of people. Generations of people are still riddled with PTSD, their whole mentality and values based on the significance of these horrific parts of history and events.
How it wasn’t her fault? it was her fault to brag about her family. She showed proudness of them. No one forced…
If my family were something akin to Nazi collaborators during WWII:wealthy from betraying and ultimately killing their own people-I would never share that openly. I would try to hide it to avoid publicity. The occupation might have been noble in some context( doctors, Hangyang), but the core point remains... I would not be proud of such a legacy. Similarly, if I were a descendant of someone like Dr. Mengele, who did horrific crimes during his lifetime, but just because he was a prominent doctor I would never mention that as a point of pride, even if he had founded a reputable clinic later on or before that. She is not a child. I don’t believe she’s naive enough to think that’s something to be proud of. One good deed doesn’t erase the past. That seems to be the general sentiment among South Korean citizens regarding the situation. I don’t believe she was endorsing anything malicious, but it’s quite frightening to see her remain so oblivious. Regardless, I don’t want her to be forever vilified or denied a decent livelihood. It's a sticky situation and I am quite torn.
