Seriously, I felt SO bad at XQ's scene with her parents today. I could sense her insecurities, fears and the despair to make the final decision with all that manipulation she's been through. Even if I've read the novel, it felt different actually seeing (and feeling) this scene when for once she's saying "I want this. That's what makes me happy. Why can't you understand my only wish when I've also done everything for you?".

Thanks for that comment! I'm sad they broke up in the past, but I see her point. I'm from a western country, but my parents and upbringing were more strict, with parents that (like the FL's) controlled and dominated many aspects. I understand their influence on her and with that influence she couldn't, as a minor, just leave them and they wouldn't approve that she got a job to be more independent and not "just" studied. Besides having that guilt conscience like "oh, they're doing everything for me and I can't just disappoint them like that". Thats an awful thing. I know, but I relate 100% and if it was me with that age, I would do the exact same thing she did. I'm happy to see she got a job and she's slowly being independent and free of their complete control to live her own life.
