I hope no one takes this the wrong way and think I'm hating but.....I've seen better shows... I'm not saying there's…
Gotta say the same thing, it’s not a wow drama but they doing a good job besides some episodes that almost made me drop the drama but I love how they are mature in their love and actually talking things out even though as you said it took her so many episodes to know the truth and that is the negative thing about the drama, it’s so slow in terms of events, how certain characters disappear then reappear after so many episodes instead of having all the important characters in the same episode, like his uncle Wei, they keep talking about him, but there in no scene, also 2nd lead reappears only for the fl, no depth to his character, I felt a lot of episodes were invested in xie Zheng and Fan love story and sometimes I keep forgetting what’s going on, who’s who
I’m at episode 8, I don’t know what will happen next but I want to appreciate this episode that I gave it a 10, mainly because of the acting so credits to the actors, it was so emotional, so good that I kept crying for the 1st time since ep 1, now for the drama itself I think it had potential for maybe a better script, don’t get me wrong it is really really good but not so engaging, since the story had so many repeated elements from other dramas/movies, I kept watching mainly for the cast’s phenomenal acting and the beautiful cinematography, also the drama reminded me of the movie better days, again the story is not so fresh/original, I was waiting for the breakthrough that happened until the 8th episode. I will update my rating after the finale but for the moment episode 8 is a 10 for me, even tho ML made a very stupid decision that shattered two beautiful souls, separated by fate but the heart kept beating. ( although I understand his decision but it’s very heartbreaking)
Probably my best show of yoona so far, I just remembered her in first historical drama god of war zhao yun, she’s more confortable and natural in this kinda of funny quirky roles .
So it’s acceptable for you that He yan killed a man three times bigger that her with a whip and song yi fighting…
Not trying to body shame anyone but I was talking about the physical appearance, for the fighting scenes in both shows I have to throw logic and reality completely that they could beat men without long range weapons especially in this drama so the arrows here are pretty realistic as you said, but my pov is that song yi’s appearence is too delicate for a general role . I know it has always been like this in c dramas castings ,but some actresses are passable for roles like this, but here I just couldn’t take her seriously (my opinion).
Song yi is so skinny that it’s so hard for me to even imagine her as a general, let alone watching her acting as one, I’m struggling to watch, I hope Cdramas stop with this skinny nonsense, even for men they do the same. Sometimes it’s passable like for the FL of LOTFG but here it’s ridiculous
For those who would have liked a duel between the "Master of Shadow Works " and the Crown Prince of Great Yan…
This is true, but the drama lacked sense in so many aspects from the beginning that I honestly didn’t mind initially since the story was decent. However, things started falling apart after the village arc. They had a beautiful love story but a disappointing, failed revenge plot, which was the foundation of their relationship and the entire drama. It felt like a wasted ten years of suffering for the FL to become an assassin, and wasted pain and anger for the ML.
Let’s not forget, the ML was a general and a prince. Yet, for ten years, his entire hope for revenge rested solely on Mei Lin, which felt unrealistic. It’s absurd, especially since, as you pointed out, he didn’t seem to care if she lived when he poisoned her, and they never showed any backup plan. That's not a true general.
There were so many plot holes, but here’s the main issue: This drama focused only on the ML, the FL, and the Crown Prince, who surprisingly outsmarted everyone, which I loved and found realistic. SO They should have kept it this way, rather than diverting to side storylines with Luo Mei or Xiyan kingdom and their CP. Since There was no developed side story or strong side characters, so the drama inevitably started going downhill. In recent episodes, they’re trying to salvage it, but it feels rushed, as if they’re just trying to fill out the 32 episodes, and giving excuses with the antidote. Also the fl shoud have been a ruthless assassin and the highlight of drama, but the writers did her dirty. The drop point for me was episode 23.
the idea of this drama was great but the execution and the plot was a big big mess, it felt like it was written…
another thing jinghe spent 10 years building the shadow works so that we get only meil lin as an assassin in the drama what about the others, it's supposed to be an organisation, mei lin was not the only one who wanted to kill him so many none sense
the idea of this drama was great but the execution and the plot was a big big mess, it felt like it was written by a kid with so many flaws and a flat bland storyline, how did they exceed at making it this bad with all these great actors, the episode 23 has to be the worst ep ever written, it doesn't make any sense it is sooo bad, luo mei falling for the cp and forgetting her first love quickly what the heck???? how could she still love him even after knowing the truth and what he has done to her aunt, to his bro and his wicked schemes of treason and burning innocent lives, she's just so stupid, also why she was the one who killed him, it's unfair, and easy death, it should have been meilin and jinghe burning him infront of qingzhou people, that's what we call a revenge , also why the heck meilin married yue qin, how did he even become a crown prince he doesn't even care about his country, searching for the FL as soon as he got his title, the story was rushed the breakup wasn't emotional, jinghe didn't even apologise for what he did to her in the shadow works, girl almost died so many times because of him. Also the scence where Jinghe was securing the king palace and fighting for his life also felt bland, the palace was in chaos yet they didn't show the other princes or the concubines or the palace maids or the king's own armed force or even the ministers, the ministers had no role in this drama, afterall they showed no governance or whatsoever, the king was stupid, he just woke up from being poisoned and yet the first he did was granting the marriage of mei lin and yue qin lol
I am loving this drama so far, the chemistry between all leads is amazing, I would love to see what's coming !! For the bodyguard and HQ, their relationship is cute and bubbly, it has more of an older sister-little brother vibe, at least for the moment with all the skinship and how HQ is so comfortable around him. It seems like she doesn't see him as a man but more like a brother or friend. For ZYL, I think HQ still loves him deep down somewhere in her heart but because of what she did before it's better for her to let him go. Recently, he's more toxic and irrational but I think he loves her and kinda knows it but he's too blinded by his hatred and can't accept and digest her demand for divorce, so he tries to humiliate her, which is not good and too much but this is his way of expressing hate and love, also he seems to struggle to get over his stupid promise to the jade pendant owner and he feels like MY owes him something but I don't think he loves her, maybe he still can't read his heart and feelings. But still, he's a red flag and kinda annoying. For ZXW, he's my fav for the moment and I am shipping him with HQ so badly, even though he crossed the line so many times considering the fl is married but at least he has a brain and doesn't act foolishly, I love how he was skeptical about her first but then he fell for her, he just can't wait for the divorce. This is exactly why I like him more than the bodyguard, who acts without thinking when it comes to protecting her, I guess being younger can be an excuse.
