I've noticed Viki is always really high, no matter how bad the drama is. I take all ratings with a grain of salt until I try it myself but usually MDL is roughly where I wind up placing the drama. I don't really use IMDb for K Dramas because it doesn't usually have as much data as far as actors etc. Rotten Tomatoes imo is dog water, I've seen too many shows and movies trolled into high or low ratings, plus it's more of an "official critic" website, which my tastes usually are drastically different from the "professionals" so I don't even bother checking what they say lol

your last point is one of the biggest strengths of Asian dramas imo. Multiple seasons of shows are rare, so artists can move on to other roles and not as likely to be typecast. Western media, on the other hand, if a show is popular, it might run for 15 seasons and if you are the hated character on that show, without refusing to renew your contract, you are stuck in the hated role for all 15 seasons/years and can't get away from it
