Your theory makes sense. If it were a dream, that would explain why in said dream, his friend had a wife. As far as Yi Chen knew, his friend was straight. So if Yi Chen were to dream of the future, his friend would be straight in the dream.
To build on your theory, it's obvious that Yi Chen adored Jiang Jin from a distance. Before the diary incident, Jin Teng didn't really seem to know Yi Chen and definitely had no feelings toward him. Yi Chen had not even confessed yet. What may have happened is that Yi Chen unconsciously created this false future whilst in a coma, in which Jiang Jin chose a girl over him and caused him to die, as an excuse for himself not to confess. Yi Chen may have been afraid of getting turned down and rejected by Jiang Jin. And fears often manifest as dreams.

The two people are usually very close (siblings, spouses, lovers, etc.) So, as unrealistic as this sounds, it could be that they were just "meant to be."
