I love li yunrui too but i feel i wouldnt enjoy the drama if they didnt keep how evil and arrogant yuwen liangshi was if they made him a nice guy i dont think that would be nice to watch ill give am example i dont know if you have watched goodbye my princess but that drama is exactly like sea of no return because the ml was so arrogant in believing that the fl would be ok with staying with him after he put her through such intense agony and despair that he just ended up insane. I would love to see how li yunrui would portray yuwen liangshi because chen xingxu portrayed li chengyin in such an amazing manner that I hated him and still hate him with all my heart. I would love to see how li yunrui would portray a villianious ml that has no redemption. Thats what made the drama so heart wrenching and beautiful like i said before if they make him a good guy this would not be as impactful as it should be.

I will say as I am currently reading the novel I think both the fl and ml may not suit the characters I will say zhang ruonan does have the potential she could show me a new side but I don’t know if she can portray the level of shamelessness li haiyu/bai zhuji is on.
To talk about ding chengxin I am a fan of his group so I know him a bit better I think when it comes to the romance aspect of this novel he could very much nail it I could see him doing so however when it comes to the political side of things thats where my hopes kind of die and like you said he is a pretty boy which is also a worry of mine because jiang xuanjin is super domineering and charismatic but then again ding chengxin does have his moments being charismatic but there are a lot of scenes where he is supposed to be a frightening sight in court and he has to carry the fl I’m in no way calling him weak however with his build it wouldn’t really be that appealing to look at if he bulked up a bit maybe it could be better.
Overall I won’t be too critical to either of them because this would be a new side for both of them to portray if they pull this off well it would really make me respect them as actors and as a fan of ding chengxin I really would hope for his first long form drama to be a hit and for him to give me stellar acting. I also would love to see him and zhang ruonan together It was fun watching them interact on variety shows.

just started reading the novel im really excited for this to be adapted the fl is basically confirmed to be zhang ruonan and i saw a lot of speculation that ding chengxin is the confirmed ml just not officially. filming will be starting in mid october so until then its still not 100% who the ml is if it is ding chengxin I will be on the lookout since he basically is a rookie actor i dont know if he could really embody jiang xuanjin i just hope he proves me wrong if he does end up as the ml and i would love to see him and zhang ruonans chemistry seeing how fun they were on hello saturday and the truth

Because I haven't watched this version could someone tell me what they cut out from here that made it into the director's cut. What crucial information did they leave out
Oh I learned just now that the fandom is more alive in this comment section I have instead been watching the directos cut because I wanted to really get the story so far I only have 5 eps left and wow this is such a drama it made me understand why dramas used to have 40+ eps this is really well paced and till 51 I have not been bored however I have felt like stopping not because the story is bad but because my heart can’t take this I am almost done but I am scared for the ending I also didn’t know this was the reason why xingxu stopped doing historicals and it was because of hate his acting is phenomenal here I don’t understand why people can’t separate characters from the actor his character is truly despicable but he portrayed it very well I will say however since I watched the directors cut I do sympathize with his character quite a bit the this version doesn't really help you understand his character so maybe that's why people couldn't take him. I was not really sure if i was going to watch his upcoming historical however after watching this I definitely will his character in the noble also seems to be a red flag so I am kind of scared for him considering that from the comments here he hasn’t acted in a historical because of how red flag li chengyin is anyways I will come back here after I finish the last few eps to really feel what the comments are feeling
