I think the story was written as commentary against "strict order/tradition". The grandmother is made to be disliked because everyone seems to scheme in order to curry favor to her, yet a truly fair reign would not force those under it to always be at each other's throats. The grandmother's preach for family harmony and prosperity is ironically the opposite of what she's achieved. I'm pretty sure there's going to be a scene where she's confronted with how unproductive her rule is

You'll know when Lu Jianglai regains memory because you can see the look in his eyes become more "scheming". He'lll begin to work towards solving the Yang case. The chemistry peaks when Rong Shanbao lets down her guard/fully accepts Lu Jianglai as he helps her fight against the plot of her evil sisters. She's stone-faced 90% of the time in the beginning but def shows more emotions when she has a confidant.

yea this is how i felt with moonlight mystique (same director), i appreciate his work but some of the songs feel repetitive when they're applied to the most random scenes

the princess is pissing me off, and i've tried to look at it open mindedly but i just can't.. she wants her wishes respected but fails to see the bigger picture (many obvious signs that the marriage won't be happy bc his eyes are ALWAYS on yixiao). she keeps dismissing that the two princes are enemies bc she hasn't truly experienced war (besides the one time she stupidly tried to join the army???). i think it takes just two eyes to see that her brother's concerns about marriage are valid, and even if not for him, she should be realistically considering how their relationship will turn out instead of going like "oh i love him itll be fine.."

i think i found out why i like this drama like how i enjoy TTEOM; it's so angsty when the lover's separate then teeter on the edge of reconciliation 😭 a lot of people seem to hate it, but ill always love the pace of the process

sorry for the late response! the translation was a bit generalizing; it essentially means "i hope there will be no troubles this time" bc the yan family is continously being plotted against by the xue family, thus losing their stronghold in the empire.

I thoroughly enjoyed the comedy of the first two eps… the 8.0 rating feels like a mislabeling (even though I know MDL ratings are never reliable). I find the FL’s reactions more realistic for the time traveling genre; she questions intuitively and fights hard instead of just accepting fate. I think im just too sick of wishy washy main characters 😅 looking forward to next eps!!

im curious what episode you're on? while i believe the drama would have delivered better with ~36 episodes, their hatred is resolved when they scheme together against a common enemy. the mortal realm illusion allowed him to understand her pain, and knowing about his lightning punishment helped her gradually resolve her hate. it didn't happen in just one episode, in fact, many criticized the FL for not letting down her grudges instantly. iirc HRY said that "there was love and hate but never abhorrence", meaning that regardless of their grudges, neither of them could let the other go. not liking the pacing is justified, but if you saw the stabbing and thought that was how their relationship simply ended, i believe you must have missed a fair amount of dialogue /episodes.
