its been awhile since a watched it so sorry if its a bit muddled:
male lead zhou sheng chen is the brother of the king who died first episode, making him the uncle of the little boy (liu hui) who ascended the throne. the cousin of liu hui is the second male lead, li zi xing. grand tutor cui has a court position therefore making the cui family noble but not actually royal. i dont remember if there were any other important figures sorry

I haven’t watched this drama yet but rating fluctuations happen a lot near the beginning (legend of shenli was once 7.9 but now 8.8, kunning palace was once 8.2 but now 8.8)

I wish success for the drama and the cast as well, although yuzheng is not well liked on Weibo cause he says crazy things all the time like openly insulting the skills of other actors and saying who deserves their fame or doesn’t. He’s a bit goofy 👨‍🦲

i discovered this drama thru weibo memes about the cover, it's rare for the SML to be sandwiched between the couple with a miserable look 🤣

in the novel bai shuo's sister dies, father dies, and she ran away from the marriage arranged with the second male lead but he still treats her earnestly and is willing to do anything for her safety (using military command w/o permission lands him and his family in trouble). she likes him platonically and feels guilty that he's helped her so much but the male lead easily gets jealous seeing this and doesn't want FL and SML to always be together. there's separation and reunion over and over yadda yadda yadda
