thanks for the honest review. I started watching Ep1 for SWL but after your review and the fact that Angela Baby is the worst actress, you just saved me from wasting my time on this.

I'm on ep13 and want to drop it. I hate the PTSD trauma scene and the drama is way too slow paced. Glad you gave me a heads up, so I'll just skip ahead to the last ep just to get it over with. Thanks for your insight !

We all have a right on this platform to comment on a drama and the impact of the actors’ performance. You have the same right to do that too - it goes both ways BUT it’s against group rules to attack or bully other reviewers and commentators about their view

Exactly! Many scenes between the leads were so awkwardly choreographed, no on-screen chemistry or sexual tension whatsoever. Of course all the moves are decided by the director, but it's like watching a puppet show by a bad director/screenwriter. I love TSY but romantic / intimate scenes continues to be her biggest weakness. One common style in all Chinese dramas are those dead-fish blank stare scenes, pretending to be a freeze frame but it's actually the actor not moving, so annoying.

Agreed! Also what spoiled it for me was XK was supposedly nude and she was still wearing that sequinned shiny black evening dress - too weird. No sexual tension whatsoever after waiting for 10 years.

I really liked the side character Lillie, she is edgy and sexy, and thought that actor should’ve played the FL and would’ve made a much more steamy hot couple with HT

Good point @Twinty ! picking the right script that let an actor shine their best is key - romance is not her thing, but she is so great in comedy

I love XuKai in BCE as well. I loved Seven in Under the Power but this one is too disappointing, their chemistry were lacking and feel too choreographed.

Wow ! You really sold me on the book and HT's character - that ruthless on the edge character would make such an exciting and intoxicating drama ! But a drama is only as good as the screenwriter. I will never watch anything else she writes again. Who is the author ... where did you get the book ?

I also watch this for XuKai, although I love Seven in Under The Power. You're so right. about the lack of chemistry. The romantic / intimate scenes were so heavily choreographed, and it shows. Xu Kai is such a good kisser in other drama, but this one, the passion is not there for both leads especially Seven - the same empty look in her eyes. I don't feel anything watching them get closer - it doesn't look or feel authentic. of course, the script, the screenwriter and the director is hopeless.

Thank you 😁 I fast forwarded a lot to get through the side character stories. When the leads’ romance started happening after ep20, it was so forced, like someone edited out all the build up, the chemistry doesn’t feel real. Happy to move on to another period drama - what’s your next one ?

I'm sure the PR team worked with the fan groups to push visibility of the show. I always find the initial reviews are always super impressed when the dramas are just barely ok.
