Will there ever be a day when BL fans will stop calling queer characters/series "too heterosexual" when they don't fit their idea of what a queer story/character should look like?
I get not calling it a "BL" and being dissapointed that it wasn't what some people expected, (since many have different definitions of what "BL" means), but people are being really queerphobic when commenting on this series. And I want to tackle the queerphobia, not the series itself.
Characters don't have to end up together to be queer, they don't need to end up with the character of the same sex to be queer, they don't need to only be attracted to the same sex to be queer!
The story doesn't need to have a happy ending to be queer, the stroy doesn't need to show explicit romance to be queer, the story doesn't need to be a love story to be queer!
It is so ironic, that so many BL fans will call queer stories (I'm not talking about this series in particular, but other queer series as well) "too heterosexual/not queer" when a majority of BLs are made by cishet women who have no clue what queerness is and don't even try to undesrstand it. So many stories made by them lack any intersactionality (which is sreally important to the queer experience), but it doesn't really matter, since the target audience is also cishet women who get confused when tehy get hit with something that they would never understand.
It's really upsetting that genuine queer stories get low ratings only because some cishet girls weren't plesed with "how gay it was" for them. To them, queerness is something that must be fun, hot and somehow relatable to be considered queer.
I can try to excuse it when it comes to talking about BL series (since they're usually made by cishet women for cishet women), but it's completely not okay when they rate other (usually men centered) queer stories with their "BL fan lense".
Queer stories about queer men don't need to fullfill your fantasies to be queer and/or good! You can write your opinions on everything, but remember that you're not the ones to say if something is queer or not. And even when the stories are made for YOU, they're still about US!
This obviously is only about the certain type of BL fans, not all!
It is a completely normal thing to be a cishet woman enjoying queer stories if you're being respectful about it and don't objectify and fetishisize queer people. Sending love to all cishet women that are BL fans and are great allies to the community! I'm really sorry that the majority of BL fans that are cishet women are ruining your reputation and making you feel ashamed/guilty for liking queer content...
