Your regular everyday childhood friends, college sweethearts, married workers Chinese drama. I liked the beginning, but then it kinda turned very much the same as others.
First part: Liar Liar plot that was basically supposed to be the main theme Second part: Dating show romance dramatics with barely mention of the “can’t lie” plot Third part: Don’t even know anymore.
It was an overall okay watch because Kang Han Na and Go Kyung Pyo were great as the leads but the plot completely gets lost and the romance is meh.
a crack show. I continued it (trying to turn the eye on the old kdrama fatphobia and other problematic stuff) because the main leads have cute chemistry and funny scenes, but throwing these two dummies in a revenge plot was ridiculous.
Short, hilarious, a bit cringe, and extremely cute. Love Pyo Ye Jin and Lee Jun Young, they’re great actors even here. it’s obviously a drama that doesn’t want to be taken seriously, so you should go with the flow while watching.
Pros: Great chemistry, fast pace, overall good acting with complexity in the characters, nice OST. Questions: kissing asmr? I don't know if they were trying to make it hot, sexy, intimate, or what, but it just ended up sounding icky, I didn’t like this choice at all. Why so many Doona Feet shots? 🤨 Why so many crop tops in what seems to be cold weather? Cons: I thought it was good that it was short, but at the same time, it ended up feeling shallow because I couldn't fully connect with these characters.
This reimagining of My Sassy Girl (2001) starts very sweet. The beginning doesn’t feel like a 2017 drama at all. It feels more like a drama made between 2004-2009 (I think it’s the comedy that gives out very 00s vibes). Some might think it’s too much and find the princess a rather obnoxious and unlikeable character (from what I read), but I was into it since I was looking for something simple and funny. The problem with this drama, for me at least, is that in the end, it gets really heavy, just like all historicals tend to do. They hooked me with the light-hearted, over-the-top comedy in the first few episodes and then did a complete 180, and everything became extremely dramatic in a way that feels like you’re watching a different drama. The leads have great chemistry, but the story becomes generic and bland. (I’m between a 7.5 and an 8)
I was surprised by this one—a true enemies to lovers and well done. Krystal and Kim Jae Wook are so good with the chaotic energy and the chemistry. The story was a bit rough around the edges and I didn't like that in the second half FL sort of takes a step back from the spotlight of the drama, but overall, entertaining.
I’d say that in terms of production, QoT is far superior. QoT is the type of drama you’re supposed to take…
No worries. Just stating my opinion. Most drama preferences can only be judged by personal opinion, so I don’t think there will be a universal truth lol. But I do get your point. I didn’t think QoT was perfect or better than LR by any means, in fact, I rated them both the same, but I believe it was more executed in terms of development, whereas LR focused more on the romance of it all. Which is what makes them different and might bias someone if they choose to watch either one of them.

I get what you mean because, at times, I felt it like that as well (Death and failed marriage in a melodrama is bound to be almost too much too dramatic). I’d say serious more in terms of “profound” and development though. QoT is a little more serious in that aspect. There’s a lot of it there and in LR (for me at least) not so much
How does this compare with Queen of tears? That Drama Was a big disappointment for me and Is still rated highly…
I’d say that in terms of production, QoT is far superior. QoT is the type of drama you’re supposed to take seriously, whereas LR is a lot more silly, comedic and fresh. LR focuses solely on the couple, so things like the villain and other characters are a bit of decoration to the story, and in QoT, every actor has a story to tell which for some (me at some point lol) might become a bit of a drag.
I will admit this is not how I thought this drama would go.
The first episodes bring up themes about fame and its consequences, mental health issues, disability and the struggle of it, and acceptance of fate (sun jae giving up swimming). I really thought I was getting into something deep. But then, these themes are entirely set aside in favor of the absurd comedy and romantic slow-mo moments. Which is fine, because it’s basically the main event here, and the actors execute it well. I low-key mourn what could have been if they kept developing those subjects from the first episodes, though. They could have made an excellent mix between 2521 and twinkling watermelon (but more romantic?). Instead, the drama sort of ends up being very repetitive and the taxi driver villain very poorly written (although I’d say the true villain here is fate). Despite of all that, I enjoyed watching these two fall in love. The cast takes the cake, and the 10/10 OST as well. I had to remind myself not to take it too seriously. (I gave it an 8.5)
I rewatched this recently, and I will say this: the premise of this drama is disastrous for me. If I had to judge only by it, I’d rate this a 5 or a 6. But Park Bo Young and Park Hyung Sik do have the best chemistry I’ve seen in a kdrama. I could watch and rewatch their natural banter and playful energy every day. Plus, the romance itself is very, very cute. Both actors make the watch worth it.
I’m between an 8.5 and a 9 because even though I had a fantastic time watching, I will admit the plotline with the psycho villain wanting to take over and the heroic husband fighting for the family bored me. It’s my personal preference, though. Some people might be into rich family business dramas, but I get a bit bored with them. The marriage and family storylines were where the magic of this drama was for me.
