Thank you so much for this review. It is wonderfully worded and I could not have said it better myself. Truly a wonderful drama (and I can absolutely relate to the feelings you felt throughout. I had to go take a walk after finishing it because of how I felt).
That is a such a good review! Thank you for writing it! I love learning more about the dramas that I particularly like and your appreciation part is spot on too!
I am so confused by people's comments about the supposed lack of chemistry between the two leads because they do have good chemistry (sure if you're expecting Thai BL level of chemistry, you will not get that, but if you compare with other BL dramas, both BL and more standard ones, it is on par). I am also personally very confused about people saying Lee Se Jin and Jang Eui Soo have better chemistry than Lee Se Jin and Kang In Soo when the person I watch this drama with and myself both said pretty quickly after Kim Tae Hyung arrived that this show wouldn't suffer from second male lead problem because his character is a creep who doesn't take no for an answer (I mean still an enjoyable character, but a character that Choi Ki Wan clearly doesn't like and he's clearly uncomfortable every time Tae Hyung is close). Like Ki Wan and Ho Sun work really well as a pair, there's complicity between them, I mean the constant heart eyes they make at each other in episode 5 and 6 especially and contrary to what others have said, there is a nice build-up to their relationship and them gradually becoming closer. There are issues with the scenario and some things are confusing and maybe a bit rushed (but that's the format really), but the main couple's relationship isn't one of them. I am honestly so confused about people commenting about this drama.
So this was very cute and the production value is clearly very high. The story does not make sense, the actresses are all way too old to be believably in high school (and it could have very easily been set at uni). But it was cute and it looked really good (and we do want more GL content soooo).
"Legend of Yun Qian", it's short, but cute. It's on YT. Also, "Pearl next door" on YT
I mean it has a lot of tropes, but that's a lot of dramas for you. It isn't my favourite drama by far, but I enjoyed my time watching it and I will be watching season 2. If you want more GL content and you don't mind love triangle type stories, it's rather good. (I also have a List on my profile with some GL content if you want a centralised list and I have written reviews of some of them.)
A very good review, I agree on a lot of points. I do have to disagree on your point about wanting more on the situation of homosexuality in Japan because it is not what the drama is about and while it does not discuss this, it was not the main point of the show which at its heart is a cheesy romcom. One of the things I liked about it was this feeling of being on a little cloud never afraid that something was going to go wrong. If you do want some really good dramas that also deals with those issues, I can highly recommend if you have not watched them already, Gaya sa Pelikula (Philippines) and I Told Sunset About You (Thailand). I have reviews for both on my account. :)
