Here the drama discussion is getting submerged due to you guys angry comments. It is creating a negative image about the people u r defending.
We can only talk about what we saw on screen. ANd even with the photographic memory he is weak because of his blind romance and petty attitude. Nobody is talking about Linghe and Esther Yu.

Elder Yue is helping YWS because of Yun Que. He is hoping that the lovers will have a happy ending, which he and Yun Que weren't able to have. Even though he was saying this to Sword Wielder, Elder Yue was actually spilling his secrets to YWS without coming clean about what he knows.

IDK, I know in the larger scheme of things it's all fine, because their destinations are the same even if their journeys aren't. I know this is YWS's story But I am still kinda annoyed at how they are all together playing Ziyu for a fool. Maybe ignorance is a blessing so it is good that Ziyu is blissfully ignorant. Ugh but I am not so I am so frustrated. Can't wait for this drama to end.

I think GZY is not the Main Lead. He is ofcourse, YWS's love interest but she is the primary character. Even the the drama opened with her, even the synopsis is that. Nothing else explains this writing.

I think it is better to see all the other three as secondary though they are as much important. I was one of them who was disappointed with the way Ziyu was written. But now that I think like this, it makes sense. If Ziyu was capable and cautious YWS wouldn't be able to be this successful in her mission. She wouldn't have fallen in love with him either. Though I am not happy with this, I think this is what the director intended to do.

I was subconsciously on the Gong's side. And since she is from Wufeng, what I wanted was the Gong bro's to unite and win against Wufeng and ultimately forgive the brides. But I think YWS is gonna overpower them all in the narrative and in the skills.

That is why ML is portrayed as weak and unsuspecting but naive and kindhearted. This is the usual male spy who falls for an innocent princess or the daughter of some important figure he was supposed to take down. The spy will be intelligent and resourceful in every way possible but the only thing is that he never experienced love. The innocent victim/girl gives it to him and despite his motives, he falls for her and finally saves all that he set out to destroy. Here they reversed the gender and kept all other tropes.

I know she can't help but do that, but when GSJ accused that she is wufeng spy, YWS looked at Ziyu and shook her head like an innocent lamb. 😭😭 my hand really itched to slap her once.

If you don't like it can't be helped. But I am currently watching ep 15 and barely skipped a few seconds.
Ziyu will have development but he will also get dragged a lot until he level up. It's as much as ZIyu's story to be a SW as it is about YWS and SGQ's towards freedom and Shang Guan Jue's towards his ambitions. There are multiple journey's and intentions.

The show is not pretending that Ziyu is the most capable they are self aware. So I suggest instead of investing in the MLs alone. if you see it as a complete story, you will appreciate it more. There are a lot of things to figure out, that is why the discussion keeps us all up here in MDL.

True and in last eps when YWS went to SGQ and they both talked in normal voice. That felt so dramatic and out of place suddenly lol

Agree, for a 24 eps drama its high time that Ziyu levelled up. Unfortunate that the writers wrote him like this.

I didn't see any toxic comments but I always hear that MDL is getting infested with toxic fans. Pls this site is for drama discussion, go to your fan pages to do what you want. Leave this site for drama watchers.

Edit: Ah okay, so I read some comments. If its true that Linghe (finally learned his name after 13 eps lol) and Esther were promised the roles of Main Leads but the director somehow change his mind midway, then that's unfortunate. I know this happening in some kdramas too and the most controversial of them was Park Haejin's Cheese in the Trap. I don't think there is an issue with screen time but more like the way the character is portrayed and that too Gong Ziyu's. Yun Weishan character is as expected only.
It must be so disheartening if this is true. I mean the director should have just said that all of them are MainLs and the story is not centred around Ziyu.

In any case, arguing about it here won't change anything. I love them all equally and I hope they will tie up the story in a convincing way. Let's focus on the drama.

I will only talk about what I liked. It doesn't makes sense to constantly complain about something when I am 100% loving the show and the show is doing whatever it is doing intentionally.

oooofff The angst!!! So we now get the backstory of Shangguan Qian. All the Wufeng spies are pitiful. BTW, the torture scene between SGJ and SGQ was superb both the actors were superb.

maybe but I don't believe he was lying about that part. I think Huan Yu was trying to get info about Infinite Heat by taking advantage of the WUfeng situation which sword wielder realised and they had a fight about that? Maybe Wuji even saw what happened but he had her keep silent due to some blackmail?
I think Young Master Yue is also involved in helping him fake the death, since he is the only other expert in we know in that field other than Yuanzhi.
