I'm gonna write something long for this rn because I don't think people is being fair in the comments (the rating is good tho, I agree with it), you got your expectations way too high then blame it on anyone else but yourself.
-This series have 10 minute long episodes at most, the whole season is a single average saeguk episode!!! Please don't compare this to SHL and CQL, these series have around 40 episodes which are 40 minute long EACH. - "It could be released as a movie" yeah, but if you don't have that many resources to promote it, then it's better to do it in little chapters so you can extend the run and slowly build a fanbase :/ -Regarding the voice...I don't think it's any different from "Tale of Nokdu" and everyone in the series was sooo convinced the ML was a woman. Dongyoon just had to force his voice far more and also talked more than Ki Wan. - "They could have built something better/deeper" Has it ever crossed your mind this was intentional? it's just something really light and comedic, you can compare this to GLs like Legend of Two Sisters and Dear Uranus.
Now, I'm gonna talk a little about some headcanons I have ? because I don't think there are as many blank spaces as people claim, these things seem subtler because it's not something they want to focus on right now. -Why did the sister run away? From the way Ki Wan entered the room, it seems like the family was angry with her, probably because she might have insisted to cancel the marriage. It may be because she dislikes the arrangement or because she has a lover, but would you leave a letter explaining the motives if you have a lover? Wouldn't your family suspect you have a lover already? I believe it's because she dislikes the arrangement and she ran away on her own. - I assume Ho Sun is from a decaying noble family and/or local nobility. His mother has bad health and believes she's nearing death. She even thanked Ki Wan for joining their family. We see no father from this side. Ho Sun decides to not break the marriage (as of episode 2) because he wants his mother to be happy. He loves his mother very much. His mother also wants Ho Sun to have kids SOON because he's literally the future of the family, she's sick and his little sister will go living to her future husband's house when the time comes. What do they win? They might own some lands in their nearby area from Ki Wan's, so maybe the latter's family wanted to incorporate those lands too and of course, as the remaining Ryu family is mostly composed of girls, who would give their only chance at living a good life for some momentary income? - Further down the local nobility thing...The clothes aren't either very rich seeming? Like yeah they have money but you don't see really detailed things. They order "Hee Jin" to do lunch or bring them water because well...as you can see, there aren't many servants, or none at all. This is what a woman was supposed to do for the family she married into ? You may not see it in palace dramas maybe because the FL is, you know, the damn Empress or just a very well positioned concubine. - Why is the little sister such a damn bitch? Why we don't have any indications of her thoughts? It's just the 2nd episode!!! She's a side character, why would they tackler HER problems with "Hee Jin" before now?? The focus is on Ho Sun/Ki Wan, not her. Also, it seems like the 3rd ep will be about this anyways, so just bear it a little. -Ho Sun loves his family and Ki Wan is willing to sacrifice his agency for the sake of his own family DURING SOME TIME. Both are grown and confused men, they're enduring this because they don't want to disappoint their families, but as far as they know they will go back to being brother-in-laws in a few weeks. They're getting along just well...I don't see their acting as a problem at all.
This commentary is damn long, but I hope it helps people to think a little bit more. There isn't any problem for asking plots to be explicit, but let's not pretend as if other big dramas didn't leave out many plots to later episodes because they wanted us to ponder about that on the side. So many people in the comments are being totally unreasonable.
He is tough enough, he was counselor of the mafia, (dealer took care of their business legally) so he was raised…
I didn't mean them with "show their cards" thing, I meant the other characters like the zumba lawyer, the police, etc. That's why I said "some characters" and not Vincenzo again, it's not like there is much to show about the 'good' side since most of the building people are used for comic relief.
Yes I agree they've been showing too much, I suppose that's bc they need to establish themselves as a threat. But yeah I'm not sure if that victory quote was necessary at the moment it was said then, because they're definitely going to make something bigger and I doubt that it'll be something like releasing classified information to the media. I think he'll give up the money so they can sue Babel for smth like robbed funds/washing money, like they bought the building and all that. On the other hand, Cha Young would also be in problems if it was revealed that she paid the victims, so if they reveal the money thing she could reduce her sentence.
Saying that he's bonding with people because he's Italian seems funny tho, that's just human nature. If you don't greet people or treat ppl kindly you'll get called mean/ungrateful/etc in any culture. It's not like he goes out for a karaoke party with any of them either, he's just doing the bare minimum. In addition, I'm not sure I feel comfortable with them using that as an explanation to the whole thing, since you're right in that they seem to be going for the found-family trope
Still, as the other comment said, he also needs the attention so he can throw down the building.
tbh I know it's still early but I'd really like if they took a more serious tone ? Vincenzo might be new to Korea** but I feel like he's being dumbed down. I would enjoy it more if he did some terrible things and the eps didn't feel like wooow he found love and now he is this wholesome being!! ofc ppl can change and ofc he doesn't have the ground to be as threatening as he was in Italy, yet... ** It seems like he is new, but he knows korean pretty well for someone that lived most of his life in Italy with no one to talk korean to. He also was in Korea when the chinese dude consulted him as to where he could hide his money ? and Vincenzo seemed to have strong connections. Where did he got those from??? Why did the mafia adopt some random foreigner kid?? He had to be young enough to call the boss "Papa", yet I'm not sure the ones shown in the last episodes were mafia members.
Either way, some characters still need to show their cards and I also think it's okay that for now it's kinda comedic since it's pretty early on too.
