Title The Sign
I don’t know if MDL peeps know this but right now there’s a running vlog of BillyBabe where they recorded their activities during The Sign fanmeet. Currently it has 2 eps, it airs every first and last Mondays on the month. It’s the closest BillyBabe related thing we have rn lol. Plus side is they’re super cute and if you wanna see billybabe cuddling on hotel bed it’s for you.

This drama needs to be succesful so it can lead to more mainstream korea bl dramas. personally i'm not a fan either…
How is it a huge step when they’re sidelining the main characters, make a het couple, and focus on the newly-established het couple instead? They’re literally turning a bl series into a het one. If this is successful, it’s just gonna make more tv stations do the same thing - “adapt” bl stories while erasing/sidelining the bl aspect. They want the success of bl manhwas but milk the conservatives’ money.

two weeks is that long especially when trying avoid spoilers, which has been impossible. doing a paid live stream…
I'll be honest your example cannot be applied to The Sign because GoT is a franchise that already has a name thanks to its novel, meaning that people are already willing to subscribe because it has fans alone from the novel. The Sign is a brand new series that has no stable fans because the novel isn't a best-selling novel. Most best-selling thailand series that are in subscription service either: 1) has a stable fanbase from novel (usually this) 2) has a stable fanbase from shipping 3) the very first series that's doing a new genre for BL. The Sign has none. Although it's well-known, it's not that well-known enough to the point where it becomes worldwide trend constant twitter trend. Putting it on streaming service is a good way to earn money, but it will cost them marketing issues. IDFth's target right now is obviously trying to promote BillyBabe and other casts to get other works, and they can get that from constant discussion & trend, which can only be gotten from free viewing such as Youtube.

IDFth is not financially struggling for it. Someone asked before for another series why they put it on YouTube. The answer is because they want to make it easier to access for fans. And don't worry about profit, because they do earn profit despite putting it on YouTube. At least for GAP. For The Sign, I'm not sure. Either way they're not struggling financially.

Also, The Sign's price is not expensive compared to other series. Other Thai series also tend to do live streaming and fanmeets.

Pit Babe's final episode event has no streaming, but their price is the same for The Sign's VIP, and Pit Babe only gives half the benefits The Sign gives. Last Twillight final episode fanmeet's cheapest price is 1,500 ($41) which is the same price as The Sign's VIP ticket. Their most expensive price is $69.

Now let's talk about fanmeet streaming services. Fanmeet streaming service for Last Twillight's March event costs $33 for the cheapest stream, and you only get a rerun. For the livestream, you need to pay $41. The fanmeet will be pretty much the same as The Sign's final ep stream, meaning you'll get the casts singing, dancing, doing some talks, photos with fans, etc. The Sign gives all of that for $15 only. The Sign's livestreaming price (and concert price) is cheap compared to other Thai series. Don't even get me started on Last Twilight's most expensive price for non-stream lol (it's $200)

So yeah, while your explanation makes sense, it will not benefit The Sign at all because thai series' system does not work the same way as western series, even more so like GoT who already has a good fanbase.

The reason why some people got mad at OP is because:
- he called the livestreaming as a "disservice to fans" when most of the things they do is not a disservice. Putting it for free on YT is deffo not a disservice
- saying IDFth prefers "money over fans" when in reality that is not the case. If that is the case, then there's no reason for them to put the series for free on YouTube and have the concert cheap according to Thai standard of BL series concerts.
- they complained that they cannot avoid spoiler. They can do it actually if they mute keywords on tiktok, twitter, etc. Most of the videos posted about the final episode is under specific hashtag, so they can mute that.

Then later on OP says they prefer to have it on streaming services which THEY subscribe without considering those who don't subscribe on monthly basis. OP literally said put it somewhere that's "on MY budget," which got people pissed even more because it's pretty much the same price as 1-2 streaming service for one month. People were under the impression that OP couldn't pay for the livestream & were understanding about it until he says that which emphasize on their own convenience without considering others who can't afford subscription service. If they don't want to pay for the livestream that's fine, and people were ok with it. Their subscribing to streaming services is also fine. But don't expect others not to be angry when they worded it strongly like that.

So you're paying for 4 streaming services? So you do have the budget for $15. Yes it's your choice not to pay for it, but you DO have the option to pay for the livestream.

Also, you don't pay $15 just for one episode only. $15 is for the entire production meaning:
- CG production
- music
- artists' salary
- director
- other crew

And many more. Why? Because episode 12 was not produced as a standalone episode, it was part of the entire production aka all the episodes.

You're talking about costs but $15 is very little for the series' production cost. You're talking about cost but you don't talk about those who can't afford streaming services and opt for free entertainment such as youtube.

And if you go your logic which is cost and disservice, The Sign is way better than those streaming services bcs they don't paywall their episodes. They didn't paywall the episodes after giving 3 free episodes like what streaming services do. Heck even the last episode will also be on Youtube, albeit longer. That's it. They didn't make you unable to watch it forever, you will eventually watch it but longer. And it's not even long like Absolute Zero where they only give the videos on YouTube once it finishes airing on iQiyi. You just need to wait for 14 days for it (not even a month!). You're saying this being a disservice is weird when you STILL get the episode for free, it's just longer (even though it's not long). A literal disservice is when they gatekeep the rest of the episodes after giving 3 episodes for free lol.

Also, having stream of the last episode together with fans is normal in Thailand. Matter of fact, The Sign has the most affordable price with the most benefits compared to other last episode events.

You're pissed because you have to wait longer, and that is understandable. Not wanting to pay for it is also understandable. But your reasonings do not help your argument when it has been proven that you can afford the livestream (but chose not to) and your solution (shown on streaming services) does not help everybody. It benefits those who are privileged enough to be able to buy streaming services and left behind fans who cannot afford to do so.

I have no problem with fans complaining and saying that they don't want to pay to watch, fans can have their own opinion. They can subscribe to any streaming services they want. However, the user wanted to put the shows on streaming shows that has the same budget as the last episode, so it doesn't make sense if the op said they have no budget. They do have the budget for it but they chose not to. This argument is also weird because there are other people who don't subscribe to streaming services esp those who are in third world countries. I know this because I AM in those countries. I'm living in one of those countries where streaming services is a privilege. Netflix is pricey here, I don't subscribe to streaming services. So if the OP wants the series on the streaming services they pay, does it mean that many others (including me) who don't subscribe can't watch it?

Also people have this mindset that they're only paying for one episode whereas actually the livestream is used to pay for all episodes. When you buy the livestream, you need to consider it as a way to contribute to every aspect of the production, meaning I'm paying for all episodes for the budget of $15. For $15, you pay for the CG production, the props, the stylists, the actors' salary, music producers, and many more. Yes you pay for the streaming of one episode, but that one episode wasn't produced alone. It's part of the entire aka all episodes' production.

As for airing the first three episodes free then having the rest paywalled on streaming shows, isn't that pretty much the same as The Sign? That unless you pay, you can't watch the show? Heck I think The Sign is doing so much better because you don't have to pay for ALL the episodes, and they'll even put the last episode for free albeit longer. All you need to do is wait, that's it.

If you think the $15 is too expensive, that's fine. You have the choice not to buy it and wait it until it appears on YT (or you can watch it illegally though I don't recommend that). But saying that it's too expensive while spending money on streaming services you can skip for one month for the last episode is not the best argument there is. Also wanting it to be on paid platforms where many people do not have access to is also not a good argument.

You say put it somwhere that’s according to your budget? Let’s see Iqiyi is $4.99/month & viki is $7.99/month. The Sign airs for 3 months meaning you’ll have to pay $15 if it’s for iqiyi or $24 if it’s in viki for the total of 3 months. The Sign livestream costs arouns $15-18 which is pretty much the same as iqiyi/less than viki. Since you said iqiyi & viki are within your budget, it means you DO have the budget for the livestream. You just choose not to.

I'm 1000000% convinced that it will be happy ending for the event tomorrow even though the process will be still…
Based on this tweet: https://twitter.com/M__Mustang/status/1756361225930412312

It seems that people's memories tharn's disappearance is erased because the dialogue said that Tharn has been missing SINCE the day of the arrest. Basically everything after that, where Tharn came back, fought Chalothorn etc were ERASED from people's minds. It means that only Phaya remembers everything. So imagine being the only person who knows what actually happened and keeps failing to find Tharn every time you swim at the river :')

I'm 1000000% convinced that it will be happy ending for the event tomorrow even though the process will be still sad. There ain't no way the ending is sad when they filmed special episode complete with BillyBabe TackPoom, and Babe complained on twitter that his lips was swollen cs Billy was too intense for the special episode lol.

I didn't watch the TV version cs I was out, but I saw a spoiler and I'm gonna give an even more gut-wrenching feeling in the reply that most interfans are not aware of cs there's no subs. Spoiler in the reply!
