It's okay to not like a work. In the end its all just preference. To me, the live action is more of a fan service as well as it was way more gay than the original novel. It was fun to watch for me, but does not mean that everyone should love it. I also believe there are a lot of people who are biased as a lot of them are fans of the novel. Even I can't stand some of the fans's reactions. It's quite frustrating to see that people can't seem to accept people can have different opinions.

It's worth it. It has shaped the characters even more. It's like everyone's background story, how they became who they are in the movie. It's not a must, but I definitely loved it

I can tell you with all honesty that when this show first got aired, it was rated a 4.6. It was only around episode 10 when it started to go over 6. To me was ep 10 my magic number, I even almost gave up at ep 6. The ratings went up really fast around episode 14 and by the end of the show it was rated a 8.3 in China. The drama actually made it more gay than the novel in which the romance was more subtle (You won't see more than staring in the drama though) but if you aren't into it, I usually recommend the anime version Mo Dao Zu Shi since it's closer to the subtle romance of the novel. The plot is amazing, but usually I see guys preferring the anime version since the romance was more subtle to nothing in there. The plot is really really good, but the drama takes time to get in, but will only get better after ep 10
This is about the life of Wei Wuxian. Romance is just a part of his life. However the romance was one of the best written ones I've ever seen. So it's not the main point but definitely one of the reasons that made it so good

Trying to remember the 3 names each character is like the hazing of the Fandom haha. But it's definitely worth it^^. You can make a PowerPoint if its too hard to manage, but it shouldn't be that hard if you get through a few more episodes
