Wei Wuxian did carry her bridal style and the way she flicked his forehead and laughed before she left to sacrifice herself. Cause this drama isn't just a romance story or just a something with a plot. This drama really pulls you into a world with real characters with all their own story. We see the story in the perspective of Wei Wuxian who is supposed to be the villain of the story and Lan Wangji who is supposed to be the role model of everyone. It is story that really makes you think about life in general and the boundary between good and evil. I often say that you can easily pick a random character, easily write three books about it an I'll buy it. The drama is full of life lessons and things that really reflect the real life despite being in a fantasy setting.

The past time was shown in the form of flashback (Him trying to figuring out what the F is going in present timeline) In his memory, he and Lan Wangji had never really been friends. He actually think that for most part of his life that Lan Wangji couldn't stand him which is actually not true. Lan Wangji was actually having a huge gay conflict/panic time and reacted on it with anger and annoyance. It was only (I think at ep 13/14) when Lan Wangji actually showed his feelings for the first time when he became jealous in the cave. However Wei Wuxian did not realize it. If you remember that Lan Wangji had hummed a song to Wei Wuxian... well, the name of the song is Wangxian. Like as in their shipname XD. For a long time, Wei Wuxian wondered how Lan Wangji manage to recognize him after his reincarnation (ep2) that he was Wei Wuxian, well it was because he played their freaking song! The song Lan Wangji wrote for him and only him! Wei Wuxian is actually the only person who had heard the song! During their time at the cave, Lan Wangji finally admitted to his own feelings to himself about Wei Wuxian and the two finally became closer to "friends" as you can say. However that was when everything went down. Their official romance actually start at present time, but Untamed did fasten this process by starting it kind of ish in past time.
If you want to know why, there is not much focus on the romance. Let me put it this way. This story is actually about the life of Wei Wuxian. Romance is a part of his life, but not everything. This story is much more and goes way deeper than that. THe romance is written beautifully and you do get plenty of scenes later of the drama, but please do not see it as a romance drama. This drama is about the line between good and evil, right and wrong. Lan Wangji is seen as the perfect role model while Wei Wuxian was considered the most dangerous villain. At least that is what the legends says. We see from Wei Wuxian's perspective, how he caused the death of the Jiang Sect, why he killed those thousands of people and if he really killed his sister/shijie and her husband. Also, he and Wen Qing do not have a love line in the novel (Although it was hinted that she might had feelings for him, but it was never confirmed) And Shijie is not in love with Wei Wuxian. Shijie is the mother figure of Wei Wuxian which will also become more and more obvious. Although it is true that Wei Wuxian is bisexual which was also hinted multiple times in the drama. The drama is full of hints like how in the novel, the romance was in between the lines. It was so beautiful because when you realize it, everything fall at their place and I actually almost cried about how beautiful it was. There is a really famous line of Lan Wangji of the novel "Playing inquiry for 13 years to wait for the one who will never return". During the time Wei Wuxian's death, (Which was also hinted by Jiang Cheng ep 2), he traveled the world, playing inquiry, trying to find him as a person if he was still alive or his soul if he was dead.
