My take was that Do Ba Woo's insecurity is not that he believes he cannot be loved (otherwise he wouldn't have confessed) but that he knows Ji Hoon is desperate to not lose him and could take unexpected measures to ensure that. Ba Woo is also resentful of Ji Hoon's reaction to his confession and how he told their friends, and doesn't want to put himself through that grief again. Seems like he gave it some time during their first year but the situation still hurts enough that he decides cutting ties is the best way to protect himself. Ji Hoon on the other hand is clearly very insecure.
