On Kim So Hyun Mar 15, 2021
Person Kim So Hyun
I hope she takes on more diverse and difficult roles in the future. Becoming a professional actress after years of being a child actress can be difficult and a real struggle, it's why I haven't been able to enjoy any of her newer dramas. Similar to Park Shin Hye, their acting seems stoic, all their characters are almost the same. That's not to say they are bad actors, it just seems the passion for the craft has disappeared. Park Shin Hye has lately been experimenting with various types, action, horror, and more. Hopefully, Kim So Hyun can put emphasis on what she enjoys and experiment a little, to get back the love for her craft. Looking forward to future projects!

This film had great things and some mediocre things. Mediocre things are usually similar for most movies, cgi, voice / sound quality, acting quality, predictable plot. But the great things? Those are unusual in this movie! So many cultures and languages in this movie, LOVE, a movie trying to do a semi-new plot instead of sequals, LOVE, and so on. I kind of wish it had had a few more cameos from many cultures, but still was a fresh watch.

Title Was It Love? Spoiler
This is going to be a contradicting opinion, but this drama is starting to give off a very predictable feel. I really hope I'm wrong, because of the teaser, it seemed like a daughter who is looking for a 'potential' future father for her and a husband for her mother. Seemed like it would be very family based, warm and humor. Original impression was the daughter would do all kinds of crazy things to get her mother to be with someone or smth. However the first and 2nd episode was a lot less light and comedy, mainly about the drama of her mothers life and about who is the 'real' father. If the real father comes into play, it is super unlikely that any love-line will occur with anyone BUT the father. Which means that the love square (not even triangle) will just be heartbreaking, with almost no chance for anyone.

The backstory that was between the mother and the novelist - they dated, they broke up (both are upset, so predicting foul-play), also goes with the mother "wishing" the father was dead and not wanting to talk about him. My money is that the father is the novelist and he is the father and they will be end game (always after nasty characters that turn nice, not the ones that are nice straight away). Too much emotional backstory for it not to be that way.

The teacher I believe will have offered help or offered to become the 'fake' father when the mother was pregnant. And the mother being alone would have most likely been scared and accepted the help, hence the possible notebook (a fake teaser).

The actor I believe will be the 'foul-player' since he seemed to care for her, knows the novelist, and constantly tries to get to her, but something comes up. (As typical 2nd lead problems.)

I've decided not to watch this drama until the ending, because if it really turns out to be this way, then I don't want to waste my time on something so predictable. HOWEVER, if the drama has a completely different ending, I will truly love to watch it. It had so much potential but the past two episodes left me in disappointment. I don't mind obvious love-lines, but obvious love-lines in between 2nd leads just breaks my heart and leaves me sad.

First episode was promising but the 2nd seemed to go into a predictable lane.

I think the filming and casting in this drama is amazing! The only two things I don't like too much is the english song, I think korean songs are much more powerful but that is a tiny tiny thing. The main thing is the writing, mainly the already love between them. It just feels sort of out of place, she's been quite harsh and feisty towards him and he is already head over heels in love. I feel like there should be some natural progression. Her character is so feisty it is hard to relate to so far, but other than that the drama is good.

Title A Korean Odyssey Spoiler
I fail to see what is so wrong about a "typical female".
A typical female role is a standard that a lot of dramas force female actresses into. Roles that don't give character any depth or any unique characteristics besides the usual pitiful or sad background. As a female, I get annoyed by these standards that a lot of dramas and hollywood movies put females into. As a female I've fought my whole life to break these standards that people have placed. Now this does not mean a female can't be girly or focus on her love life on screen to be strong, but some characters are created solely for that reason, and that is what I don't like. Now her flaws, in my opinion, she has no relationships with the rest of the characters, if she speaks with others it's usually about her love interest. Her character is not that of the one that was showed at the beginning. There has been no growth since then. You can remove her character after she released him, and almost nothing would change. Her role has been given power as the Sam Jang, and she foresaw a disaster killing her city, and she has not had any reaction, the first thing that happened was she called the guy again. A typical female, is when dramas create a female role that is predictable. Now this is purely my opinion, I'm not trying to make you dislike the drama. The drama had a lot of interesting characters and plot lines, but in my opinion, she is not one of them.

Am I the only one that can't stand Jin Sun Mi, because she is such a useless character? Every time she is on screen, the only thing she does is "oh, does he like me?". She started off as such a badass and now is just a typical female :/

I really liked this drama because it seemed so real. The screaming, the crying and the running. This drama it portrayed these very well, the sweat on the forehead, for example. In the new dramas it's all about being pretty rather than acting. The tears will always be pretty, when a person is being hurt or leaves they just stand there crying while Park Shin Hye went full at it with running and yelling. That's why sometimes classics are better. I loved it :)

I watched most of the drama, and when I couldn't watch any longer, I watched the rest of it by skipping over most parts. I know the ending and everything that happened, but it just didn't intrigue me enough to finish it thoroughly. It's my personal opinion as someone who knows everything that happens in it. Is it really needed to watch all the conversations to write a review. It doesn't change much, the plot stays the same. I do get your point, but for me, the last episodes made no difference.
