DFQS needs the intact primordial spirit of chidi and put it in the shuofeng sword to unseal 100k soldiers. But once he interferes with chidi's mortal trial, like somehow he took the baby to retrieve her primordial spirit, it may caused the trial to fail and as a consequence, her primordial spirit will vanish and he said it almost turned to ashes when they retrieved it.
Regarding the scene with Xun feng, I interpret it that as follows : when he retrieved her ps and DFQS take it from him, it almost vanished, and then he put it back inside the baby, and everything was intact again, that's why he was shocked and sound more like : "why it remains intact inside the baby again? (hidden meaning : but when they retrieve it, it almost did not work)" . if you get what i mean...
So no matter what, they need her trial to be successful and follow the normal journey of what is written in her destiny book, so they can pull the primordial spirit safely.

It's okay, you have your opinion but some clarifications I would like to make, because you miss some points, one day in the immortal world is more than 100 years in the mortal world so imagine few hours in immortal world would mean few years in mortal world, that's why CH and DY are adults, and the story does not need some draggy scenes when we will see them young besides there are only 36 episodes. The arc is during xie wang qing trial so of course the writer will not waste time to maybe show us unnecessary childhood lives.
They are close buddies where CH took Danyin back 11 years ago, CH is a mortal who doesn't remember his past lives btw same to DY, their personality change as well. Xiao Run (CH) is engaged to the girl Xie wang qing in the brothel, it's understandable he wanted to see his fiancee and Crickets (DanYin), his close buddy came to prevent him in that scene.
