So that's my take on that situation.
As we confirmed, DFQS need XLH's to hate him so we could remove the bracelet without her getting hurt and he said to XF to take care of everything (as we can see so far, it was always XF who did all the mean things to her by the order of DFQS)
When XF went to XLH, this time he did not follow along the plan of his bro and vent his anger on how DFQS used evil spirit at the stake of his life, thus, leading him to tell the truth (we didn't see the sequence he told the truth clearly though but we did see he confirmed it to her in xuanxu).
So I guess, when XF said to DFQS that he couldn't save the 100k soldiers, DFQS interpret it as he failed to retrieve the bracelet because XLH didn't stop loving him.
Hence, only we (viewers), XF know that the failed attempt mean getting her killed
