DeokIm’s life as a concubine is exactly as she predicted 😭😭 what a pitiful existence 😭😭😭 women had it hard back then. Even the queen dowager (supposedly the most powerful woman) cried from helplessness. 😭
Not 100% sold by the palace politics, things seem to jump from here and there. BUT imo the interactions between San and Doek Im is THE BEST sageuk romantic relationship so far. It’s nuanced, realistic for the era, mature, etc. The dialogue are so poetic i just cant😭
I wished they had chosen a different time period.. the way it’s going, I have a feeling it doesnt neccessarily have to be set in the 1980s, which is a very sensitive time period to be basing a drama about NK spies 🙃. If it’s really about a bunch of corrupt SK and NK or any politicians colluding for the sake power, we have a lot of that in any time period I believe 😅😅 from a cinematography point of view, this drama is quite well made.. what a waste of good acting, directing, writing :(
i’ve watched ep 1 and the start of ep 2 so far while being cautios of the accusation of historical distortion. So far IMO the show is pretty explicit in potraying the NSA (or the coercive apparatus in general) as having trackrecords of arresting pro-dem supporters E.g Jisoo’s brother being arrested for protesting and jisoo’s first instinct to protect hae-in, instead of turning him in bcs she thought “he’s arrested for participating in the protest too”
Not sure where theyre going w Hae in being a NK spy, hopefully it isnt the direction of justifying framing prodem activist as NK spies, but i think it’s only fair to let the plot develop first.
I really want this show to do well cs im a huge fan of Hae In but I’m totally symphatetic to the knetz’ concern 🥲

Sigh. It seems like Joonyoung wants to like Songah romantically, but is unable to move on from Jungkyung. Meanwhile,…
hahah great point at this point there is no real barrier for the leads to end up with their first love interest! everything is out in the open. HUHU i wouldn't want that tho.
This week we get sad episodes. But for me so far the tally is:
Best character: SA and Yoing in Understandable (even interesting character), in this order: - JY - HH - JK - JY's prof (he's projecting his insecurity, but at least he's self aware. During his convo w JY while drinking, i actually relate more to him than to the good person JY LOL) - DY (bcs of the "i am ur friend for 10 yrs too" line) - Hae Na (yes she is hateful for no reason, but props to her for calling out SA) - Grandma
Evil, but entertaining: - SA's prof (holy her bitch face. You dont wanna mess w her)
Bad one dimensional character: - manager guy. Ew. - JK's professor. What is her deal honestly. - Min seoeng. Ugh. I had hopes in her. She's so selfish. Talks about herself all the time. Cut people when they speak. Insensitive. And blames other for her own blindness.
Idk about their other friends, but somewhere in me can understand HH. Imagine being in a relationship with someone…
I totally agree with you!
Other than this, I kinda understand where JK is coming from when she told SA that she'll wait for JY. JK and JY (regardless of JK and HH relationship) have toeing that friendship line ever since high school. The traumerei thing isnt pure friendship and they both know it. JY just never had the guts to be honest. So imagine playing that game for 15 years and suddenly realising that it's gone and ur life is different now, JY has gone to someone else (the "habit" conversation between JY and Youngin is so apt), you're not gonna go without a fight. It wouldnt be realistic if JK just gives up like that. for the same reason it makes sense for JY to also feel nostalgic about JK, JK-HH, and their trio in general.
When JY asked SA what she thought about his piano playing (in the practice room, at school), SA said something like "it was lovely, sounds like the skill of someone who wins a lot of competition"
She said it was a compliment but then when JY said that didnt sound like one, she followed up w "was I too obvious?"
Does this mean that SA did initially try to *subtly* critize him?
I'm not sure why this bugs me so much ahahah or maybe cs I'm lowkey hoping SA would be the one to explicitly point that out and help JY in that regards?
Also merry xmas and happy ny everyone!
