Cannot believe how underrated this is... they are COOKING with this show!!! Extremely signed up for 12 eps of what has so far been a dramatic, hilarious, charming caper.
Really enjoying this so far... the unfolding power dynamic feels really well calibrated, I'm into the doses of romcom (even though I'm usually allergic to cringe), the production choices are almost all working for me - I am seated and eagerly waiting for next week!
I am into both 1) the way they are setting this story up without too much dragging on logistical details, and also 2) the overflowing bucket of gay haplessness and earnest chaos that is Pat's character!
PS Ticha really needs to require Pat to run every single one of these wild ideas by her *before* Pat goes diving in if she is going to end up having to clean them up afterward anyway lol
I loved ep1... they manage to set everything up super effectively in a short time plot-wise, Pat's disaster of an insecure attachment style is really hitting for me, and I thought they threaded the needle pretty well on the drunken shenanigans (clearly sketchy but not so unethical it makes it hard to engage at all). Excited for what's to come!

This has been an unexpected banger... The Downfalls I am Rooting For Power Ranking changes every episode, although Dad is always number 1 (grow a spine you coward, everything is happening because of your nonsense)
Had no idea what to expect with this, but I thought EP1 was pretty good! It did drag in the middle but overall - no eye roll moments, the visuals were interesting, and I felt some good intrigue especially around Air's whole deal.
IMO Loft was the highlight (charisma!) - not so much feeling Pure yet, it felt like there was something kind of off about either the character direction or the acting there... but staying tuned bc this definitely was worth watching!
she is the moment!!!! given the campiness/absurdity of the show so far I will be disappointed if we don't get…
oh Denied Love had elements of camp for sure! In the spirit of positivity I will just leave it at I think Denied Love had a clear, bounded, limited artistic vision and this one was... not as intentional LOL

Yeah this tracks closely with my reaction too - it's not a show about narrative, it's a show about their dynamic, and that to me 1) helps mitigate the low-budget-ness / the fact that they stick so close to the novel itself (which is pretty mid) so it feels less offputting and more stylized, and 2) lets the fact that they absolutely deliver on that dynamic shine through
The first ep had me smiling the whole time! Maybe it just seems to be lower quality because it was in the past?…
saying this w/ zero shade bc personally I am going to keep watching and try my best to appreciate this show (and bc I am rooting for every GL to be great and succeed)!!!
but "just enjoy it and be thankful" - tbh the thing I am most thankful for here is that enough unique GL work is being made that we don't need to boost every single thing even if we don't connect to it.
that said I believe in trying everything, keeping an open mind, paying to watch, and giving as much benefit of the doubt as possible to all projects. :)
for this one, keeping fingers crossed for ep2 + beyond!

like the conflict itself isn't weird/unrealistic... until you put it in the context that they have somehow been together for that long, and I guess either 1) it wasn't a big deal before (?!) or 2) if it was a big deal, they didn't do anything about it for literal years (?!)
(disclaimer - I have no prior knowledge of/loyalty to LO as a CP, haven’t watched TSOU, just heard the hype and got excited to check this out)
watched ep1, it felt surprisingly mid to me - I was definitely disappointed given the level of investment & advance excitement. but for sure not bail-worthy at this point, IMO (I have sat through much worse for less payoff!)
highlight: Orm's acting was fun to watch, as I said hadn't seen her before, great energy and I was bought in to the character
lowlight: unfortunately Ling's acting - I absolutely love a stoic character, and I think she was probably going for subtle facial nuances, but the overall effect did not land for me (I think the “how do you do, fellow kids”-inspired student look was really working against her, so I am hoping this will improve once they leave flashback land)
fingers crossed for a strong upward trajectory, I will keep watching and keep the faith!
Loving how they have set up the dynamic - this feels like a wildly hard story to nail on screen and still have the characters be both fun to watch and sympathetic, and the choices with the acting and the directing come through for me really effectively. The mix of cuteness - playfulness - hotness - suffering - awkwardness surprised me with how well balanced it's felt so far.
now we need more EnjoyJune - rooting for Love On Hire news soon!
