keep in mind the movie builds up slowly which i had no problem with.
i thought that worked in the favor of the storytelling and the climax.
But since you were bored by Kingdom, i am not sure if this slow build up will keep you engaged on.

no, because the story of ashin is actually precedes before the events of Kingdom series 1 and 2.

But it does help on understanding some elements.
