I don't think necessarily. I've seen non-bl shows in which men hugged and even slept in the same bed together. If the social queues are anything like central and west Asia, then I would say touching between men is okay too but it depends on the context.

The tags here are not reliable. Don't take it too seriously. Either way, there's plenty of romance in the story actually. Including but not limited to: ranwan, shi mei and mo ran, ye wangxi and nangong si, and... 3. Yes, I think master Xuanji was also genderbend. Or one of the other masters. The main reason for the gender thing was to add female characters, apparently. It's all fine though. For the most part, we should think of this show as a 2ha fanfiction that was made in a live-action format!
