But, he was undercover though and not that he did it intentionally. Plus, it was way before he met Ruyi. I feel like Ruyi is digging into this case because she just wants to tease Ning Yuan Zhou.

I believe that is just one of his many undercover identities. He probably has more identities because he looks like he's still hiding something from Ruyi. It wasn't addressed clearly by him so we'll see if they bring back this topic.

Maybe some people already caught this info before me, but I didn't catch it the first time I watched it. I realized in Ep 22 while rewatching it with my mom when the princess asked Qian Zhao what NYZ did for a living, he said "I hadn't join SCARLET GUARD at the time" and then goes to say, "Sorry, Liudao Hall". Hella smooth! I didn't catch that the first time. 😂 So, people assuming he was a male white sparrow is probably correct.
