QI MIN STOLE THE SHOW
Honestly after finishing this drama I really understand the hype now. The cinematography is beautiful, the actors were absolutely gorgeous I didn't know where to look and the plot had me hooked especially towards the end.
I admit I started this drama alongside everyone else when it aired earlier this year, and while I was a big fan of the romance build up in Lin'an, I ended up halting finishing the drama about half way through. Reason being, once Yan Zheng had left to become the Marquis again and Fan Chengyu still didn't know his identity and had joined the army or doing whatever she was doing I can't remember, I low-key just lost interest. I found it quite boring. However, just recently I was struggling to find something good to watch on Netflix so decided to resume it and I am SO glad I did.
Qi min was absolutely OUT of this WORLD!!! I fear that man low-key put Zhang Linghe to shame with how incredibly hot was ugh. His acting really took the spotlight in this show. Every time he came on screen I was enraptured with his face and his ability to achieve micro expressions. I genuinely got shivers watching some of his scenes especially the hard hitting ones towards the end. And I won't lie I even shed a tear for him. Although I found him incredibly attractive I also as a viewer was absolutely terrified of him, which really goes to show how good of an actor he is.
The romance between him and Qianqian was fucking electric and they had much more chemistry (and kisses) than the main couple I fear. Some of them were so lush and sensual I loved it. Especially that scene when she asks him to get on his knees and beg her. Absolute fucking cinema. It hits so hard because we know he's a crazy psycho who goes around killing people on a whim and she really does change him and it's beautiful to see. I desperately need a sequel AU or some fanfics or something of just them.
But moving on from those two, I've gotta be real and hand it to the reason I watched this drama, Zhang Linghe. The sheer aura emanating off him in that scene when he has those antenna things in and he's riding through the capital. PEAK. Icl I knew he wasn't going to disappoint. I still prefer his character Xie Wei from The Story of Kunning Place though and I will did on that hill!!!!!
I also loved how Fan Changyu represented a strong powerful woman, who goes from being a butcher to on top of the world on her own merit. I felt so proud. The only thing I have an issue with is how unrealistic it is for her to be a strong fighter with her skinny weak physique, it's very clear she would not be able to be doing all that. Honestly I feel the same for a lot of male actors in cdramas too, including chang Linghe, so it's not just her. It kind of takes you out from the drama a little bit. The only realistic general I've seen so far is Cheng Lei in Legend of the Female General.
Anyways all in all I definitely recommend.
