Finishing this drama is so extremely bittersweet. I, like many other of you, have been waiting for the release of this show, and to be quite honest, it did not disappoint. As someone who has been watching Wuxia dramas since I was young, this drama brought upon a load of nostalgia. And although I appreciated this traditional story line, it was often times too predictable. The villain was predictable, and forgiven way too easily for his misdeeds. The ending also felt extremely rushed, whereas the middle of the drama seemed to drag on forever. That being said, I have to admire the production value of the drama, as well as the amazing acting done by the cast. Luo Yunxi was amazing as ever, although I found that his character did not give him much to work with. It paled in comparison to his previous acts as Ronqi and Runyu. None the less, I found that flirtatious and caring Shangguan Tao really stole my heart. I strongly believe that if he would not of been dubbed, Luo Yunxi would have delivered an equally strong performance to that of Runyu and Rongqi. Yukee Chen's character was somewhat lack luster towards the middle of the story, but I found that it did pick up towards the end of the drama. I had a hard time empathizing with her glass eyed crying, and I felt that she could've conveyed her emotions better in the middle of the drama. We've seen her do great work in Heaven's Sword, Dragon Sabor so hopefully this was a fluke in the script. Overall the chemistry between Shangguan Tao and Chong Xuezhi was satisfying. Zhou Ting Wei, on the other hand. really stole this drama for me. His character was so pitiful that I could not stop myself from developing a soft spot for him. I strongly believed that he deserved so much more than what the script had for him. He did everything for Chong Xuezhi, even when he knew she would never love him back. Between Yuwen MuYuan and Shangguan Tao, I would of happily fallen in love with Yuwen MuYuan. Overall, this drama was a good watch, albeit extremely slow towards the middles episodes. The acting and chemistry between the main leads really supported this drama through.
Despite what everyone is saying about Alan Yu's acting, I believe he did a phenomenal job with the role of Jing Ci. His character is supposed to be reserved and stiff due to his illness and disability. The drama really does no justice for his acting abilities. If you want an Alan Yu filled with emotion and character, please watch his drama Xuan-Yuan Sword: Han Cloud. His character is literally bursting with emotions and shows that he is in fact, a good actor. That being said, the main female lead Yukee Chen was amazing as she always is. I loved he roles in both Ashes of Love and Heaven's Sword Dragon Saber. Her relationship with Mu Bei Yan, played by Zhang Si Fan, defiantly stole the show for me. So much so that I found myself rooting for Mu Bei Yan towards the end of the show. I would say watch it if you need some past time. But do not be expected to be wow-ed by the story line. The eye candy from the main leads definitely helps boosts this drama's ratings for me.
