Her mother is wrong regardless; was it hasty yes. However it is not unusual to have a speedy proposal considering neither the uncle nor the father objected to it. I am looking at the whole situation and what I'm seeing is a mother who has reservations instead of stating them like a grown up she belittles her daughter and say she isn't good enough for LY. It would have been more sensible to tell her daughter that a family like that is too complex and it would be better for you to wait. So her mother may not be wrong but she is not solving the matter in a classy manner.
