Now I'm no film expert or anything like that so that's probably the reason I do not understand why everyone is…
I was also sitting in the same position after watching the movie. It wasn't a bad movie, but I didn't like it. The movie is a slow burn with no characters that are particularly likeable, which made it hard for me to get attached to the story. There was a few scenes that also could have been cut out and not effect the story at all, that would have tightened things up and given a more reasonable runtime for the content. It came across as overhyped because it came out regarding hot button topics that lots of people resonated with at the time (ie. capitalism and parasitic relationships in order to gain some semblance of success in life). Which, to the director's credit, he made into a successful film that resonated with more than just people from Korea, which is honestly such a cool thing to see get accomplished through film.
But it also kinda sucks to see a director that has made better films in the past, that you wish he had gotten recognized worldwide a lot sooner :PI found these works by Bong Joon-Ho to be my favs, the first one listed being on of his best: Mother (2009), Memories of Murder (2003) and Snowpiercer (2013).
