Unpolished but Drake x Frank made it work
It's an unpolished, probably low-budget BL but Drake and Frank make it work, and I don't regret watching this one. I wasn't invested at all in the second couple, though, and skipped all their parts. Not everything in the script/storyline made sense—Is Tee's dad gay? Why didn't Au like Tee? Who is Som? What's Mork's illness?—but some lines were really good, like when Mork's dad spoke about grief or the way Tee declared his love to Mork.
I'd say the synopsis doesn't really describe the story, so here's my take :
Storyline goes like this :
Mork and Tee become friends in 7th grade and grow close over the year. Mork is attracted to tee but probably confused about his own sexuality. One night he makes a move on Tee but it startles Tee, who then leaves and don't talk to him again from then on. They both think the other one is ignoring them so they don't reach out and grow apart.
They only meet 3 years later when they're both in 11th grade. Tee is the rich, model student while Mork is the scrappy problematic one.
The Bambie story line is very short lived : Bambie isTee's friend and has a crush on him. To mess with Tee, Mork insinuates Tee is gay in front of Bambie which makes her step away from Tee. Then, Tee asks Mork to pretend to be in a relationship with him to make Bambie jealous. Mork agrees to this plan. As they grow closer, Tee explains he never had feelings for Bambie but didn't know how to reject her so he "pretended to like guys".
The boys realize they both have feelings for each other and start dating.
Then ensues drama : the boys are caught kissing. The school is against it and threathens to evict Mork while Tee's mom also tries to separate them. But it all ends up well and it's a happy ending.
I'm writing this because the sysnopsis is misleading : it's not really about them pretending to be a couple and ending up falling in love. It's more about two teenagers being attracted to each other but struggling to come to terms with it and navigating a world who is against them being together.
Quote i loved :
Mork's dad talking about grief : "For people in love, it's not "gone". It just moves from out-here to inside the heart. It may be hard at first, but don't rush it. Live your life as normal. If you can't forget, don't. Although you don't have them beside you, they are in here the whole time. For those in love, even though your loved one is far away, it feels like they're close to you all the time because you always miss them."
