It’s hard to film when the setting is on the ship. It’s normal that we will see those faulty moments. Even on Hollywood or any movies , you will rarely seen a perfect ship movie.
Candles is always the form of light in that time. It’s normal to be that way. Actually I am more impress to see that they used candle as their light instead of modern lighting. The setting became ore realistic.
